Hi everyone .I would love to lose this weight I'd be happy if I lost 3 st ... I've always worried about how I look. I was diagnosed with seron negative they put me on numerous drugs so far I take 27 a day . The steroids made me gain lots of weight. So has this disease ... because of the pain and swelling I find it difficult to exercise . Before I was always very active. I'm stuck in a rut hating how I look but just end up eating choc then angry at myself. I would love help and support if anyone could help me ... please

Hi, please don't feel ashamed. No one chooses to be overweight and with your health problems it is difficult. Turning to chocolate is only going to make you feel worse. You could either say a definite no to the stuff or you could ration out little bits. Personally I find it easier not to eat it at all but some people find a little is enough. I wish you luck, keep posting!

Hello Bay1iegh and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

can you walk ok? When I first started I just walked and gradually ncreased my pace, I now do strength exercises as well but most weight loss is dietary, exercise will help with toning. If you have no resistance to chocolate- my weakness are crisps, then its best not to buy any and ban them from the house. Good luck

we all have those days when we give in to temptation- I have to walk past the crisps aisle since if I go up it it can be a bit dodgy if I am able to resist or not!

Welcome and good luck to you. Don't be ashamed. I'm sure you are much more than your weight but I understand and I am learning to love myself. Check out the happiness challenge. I just started today and it will help you realize the good things in life. My husband loves me regardless and so should I. Hope to see you around the forum. Stick with it and you will be surprised.

I want to lose three stone too, need to lose more really. I wish us both luck. I have to resist buying treats because I know that if I buy them I will demolish them in an unhealthy way. Please try not to put yourself down, I really don't think it helps us at all.

Have you tried increasing protein through the day to see if it helps with the choc cravings? Emotional chocolate is the worst. Also can the Doc recommend foods that maybe help lower water retention? Would that help a little? It's bad enough when it's just you and your mind sabotaging your weight. I can't imagine how it would feel to have very little control over it due to illness and medications. Be strong, read/research lots, and don't be afraid to vent or ask questions here.

Thank you for advice and taking time to respond. I feel like I'm losing the battle . I think it's because I feel so disgusting I eat rubbish then the cycle begins. I'm trapped .

Just wondering - do you spend a lot of time indoors? If you do is there any way you can sit outside and get some fresh air and sunshine. That's always a bit of a feel good booster. Just sit and have a coffee or tea with the sun on your face. Maybe do some craft like knitting or crochet if your hands/wrists are okay with the movement, or read a book to keep your mind occupied while you are out there. Sit out in the sun, close your eyes and listen to your favourite music. If you can't get outside can you sit on a chair in an open doorway. Anything that will help promote a feel good mood.

Little steps :D
