Hi, Like many others I am so fed up with dieting. I lose half a stone, which takes about 3 months (I need to lose 4 stone now!) then get totally disillusioned and gain far more than I lost. Hence why I have now 4 stone to lose. I'm looking for a steady loss of 2lb per week on 1400 calories, have others succeeded?

Hi and welcome, Punchy :)

With 4 stone to lose, I would suggest that 1400 calories is too low and that you should check your personal allowance on the NHS BMI calculator.

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Thanks for the quick replies, I have read all of your recommendations and joined this site via NHS so feel fully informed! I will give myself an extra 200 Cals, so 1600 in total and see how I progress. I feel optimistic as I know everyone is on the journey, my problem is I want the end result, ha !👌

Hi welcome to the forum. Forget the word 'dieting' and replace it with healthy eating which is sustainable. You will get lots of help and support on here and I have no doubt you will get the weight off and keep it off.

To get the best results don't pick a number at random but do check your calorie allowance on the BMI calculator.

Do make sure you eat at least the amount the NHS bmi calculator advises you to eat between to be able to lose weight because when I first joined I found out that the reason I had never lost any weight and was previously putting weight on was because I wasn't eating enough calories. By not eating enough calories it was making my body think I was starving it and turning what I did eat into body fat. This weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it was stopping me from losing weight and meant I was sometimes putting weight on instead. Please don't make this same mistake as well because I went through this problem for years and was so pleased that I found this out because now I have finally started losing weight and have lost almost 2 1/2st.
