Hello... Newbie needing help!

Hi, new to the site but not new to trying to lose weight.

Since my Dad's passing last year my eating habits are out of control (they were bad before).

I am always starting my diet on Monday, then next week then it just doesn't happen. Until the next time I feel bloated and bad about my weight, the it starts again.

I joined other slimming clubs but fall at different hurdles and then lose interest. I am a fussy eater so I look at some foods and menus and know I wont enjoy eating them.

Hope this site offers something different that will keep me both satisfied with the food choices and the weight loss to come.

Hi and welcome - sorry to hear of your loss x x

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Hi and welcome, SMR :)

It's time to stop thinking diet and start thinking healthy lifestyle! Don't wait until Monday, start today! :)

Log onto the weigh-in and the Daily Diary and come up with menus that you'll enjoy, but that won't cause you to gain weight. There's a lot of information and support to be gained from this community, so use it to the max!

Wishing you all the best, as you start the way you mean to go on :)

Sorry to hear that your dad passed last year.

Apart from that any of us could have written your message. We've all been there with false starts and new diets.

So draw a line under the past and start here and now.

The top tip I've picked up is to stay posting on the forum ... you've a lot of experience to share about what worked and didnt in the past.. so don't be shy!

Best wishes😊

You can definitely start today! I found it really helpful at first to look at what I was actually eating and then begin looking at how I could tweak that. I also focused at first on just not eating to excess. I ate exactly what I would normally and watched to see what happened. For me it has been about reducing portion sizes of some things and increasing those of others. I actually needed to increase my calorie intake to be inline with the recommendations for weight loss range on the BMI calculator. Then I planned my usual menus but tweaked sizes to fit the recommended calorie intake. It is about eating healthily and balanced food. Macaroni cheese fills most people who are 'dieting' with horror but actually, served with a salad or veg such as broccoli baked into it too and where the rest of the meals in the day are not excessive on the calorie front then it's fine!

I think it's really important to enjoy eating but it's possible to enjoy good for you food too as well as the occasional not so good - just count it all!
