Hi, I'm starting today too. I've always been overweight but now I am obese and I need to make changes!!! Big ones! I'm hoping seeing other people on here do well and getting support from other people in the same situation will help. Good luck to you! I know we can do it if we really try.

Be strong and determined and don't give up, the small stuff does matter as in food, be realistic and do what you can for now, portion distortion is a real killer too

Hi there and welcome messert

This is a great place to get support during your weight loss journey. It took me until I was 49 years old to tackle my weight problem, and how I wish I had done so sooner!

I have a disability that affects my mobility and also causes me a lot of pain problems, but I found just through diet alone, I could do it!

Here are some of my past messages which you may find helpful?

Use the NHS 12 week plan. It works! One day at a time 👍

Hello fellow fibro champion (because we are that for keeping going). Well done on making the decision to join us here.

The basis of the NHS plan is great and controlling calories really does help. As someone advised me when I first came on her be honest with yourself and ask yourself why you want to lose weight; find your reasons and constantly remind yourself of them. Loosing weight is great and getting a healthier relationship with food really changes your outlook. Lastly be patient, as hard as it seems it is better for weight to come off slowly then quickly.

Welcome again

Hi messert and also Gaynor7577 welcome to you both and well done for joining. One thing you could both do is check how many calories you are actually eating and compare this to the amount you should be eating on the NHS bmi calculator. When I first joined I wasn't eating enough calories and could never understand why I wasn't losing weight and only putting weight on. I was only eating around 1000 calories a day and just getting bigger all of the time. I found out on here that by not eating enough your body thinks that you are starving it so it turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes means your putting weight on instead. The bmi calculator gives you two amounts to eat between to lose weight so make sure you are eating somewhere between this amount, preferably the top as you can always drop the amounts if you come across problems as you go. Please make sure you are not also making this same mistake. Good luck with your journey.

Perhap log on to the Fibromyalgia Action site on HU, if you haven't already? They can also offer support if you need it.

For some people going gluten-free (but not eating the ready-made gluten-free foods) can help with the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, it might be worth researching this. Good luck with the weight loss.
