Hi everyone

I'm new to this and feel a bit awkward posting on here as I've never posted on forums before. I have now reached a point though where I really need to lose weight and am looking for some support to feel motivated and achieve my goals.

I was horrified to find that I firmly fall into the 'obese' category when I did my BMI check on the NHS site. I'm 25, 5ft, 4" and currently weight 13st, 9lb.

My ultimate goal is to get all the way down to 10st, 7lb so looking to lose just over 3 stone. I'm really unhappy with my body size at the moment as I have just been lazy and let it creep up and up and now just feel fat all the time. I currently work in an office job so am not very active but I would love to join the RAF so I need to lose weight and get fit before I can even apply to do that!

Short term I would love to fit back into my size 14 jeans which I have stubbornly not thrown out (I'm now really pushing a size 16)!

My partner is also trying to lose weight so I have a bit of support at home but often we are each other's weakness- if one of us suggests a take away or that we skip the gym that's all it takes for both of us to lose focus.

I'm not completely focussed on my BMI/weight as this doesn't take into account muscle weight and ideally I would like to not only lose weight (fat) but also to get fit enough to not just pass an RAF fitness test but to be able to cope well with the training.

I'm looking forward to getting involved in this community and would appreciate any pointers people can give me with making the most of this as I'm not sure really how to get involved.

Hi, I have just started too and found the Nutracheck calorie count app very useful, think I might have to start paying after a free trial. It really makes you realise how much you should/shouldn't be eating. I was a little depressed when I read some people's Daily Diary food posts but have found that just reducing the portions of my Lean in 15 type meals is helping. My other top tip is move every day, even if it's just a 30 minute walk. I have a very inactive job and can feel my arse expanding by the minute if I don't move around in the evening!

I've got a fitbit... have had it for a while but just out of the box today which seems quite good for calorie counting.

Haha know what you mean about the arse expanding! Went for a 40 min walk on my lunch break today so going to try and keep that up :)

Hi sam2519,

Welcome, I'm new here too.

A friend who had to lose a lot of weight was advised by the doctor to eat whatever she wanted 1 day a week to keep up metabolic rate.

Good luck with reaching your goal.

Hi and welcome, sam :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Heya. I have just started too and have a similar amount to lose. I also feel weird about forums but I definitely think it is going to help. I never even realised this site existed until a random search on Google in desperation and looking for answers to my weight loss problems! Good luck to you. ☺
