I found the nhs weight loss plan when looking for an alternative to slimming classes. I want to lose weight, I know about healthy eating, portion control etc, but my busy lifestyle often leads to me choose quick to prepare unhealthy choices. Since beginning the nhs plan 3 days ago I have found the motivation I need, I've completed 3 good days so far, rather than my usual 'give up and start tomorrow'

I joined four days ago and I'm feeling inspired by the NHS programme.

I haven't found the courage yet to weigh myself. I know I will find it just too depressing and discouraging. But I have bee recording what I am eating and keeping it in line with plans I have followed before.

Feeling more positive already and more energy just because I am actually doing something about a big longstanding problem.

I think this forum will really help me keep going until I am brave enough to hit the scales.

I feel more positive too, I have found the posts I've read have been really helpful, so much information, and I've had the confidence to join in which I don't usually do, When you're ready to hit those scales, I think you will find the help you need to continue.

Congratulations also to you Dodlink on completing 4 days.

See if you can get around to weighing yourself. Think how good you'll feel when you start seeing the weight coming off. Rather than focusing on the final destination, people here break their journey down into small 'trips'... the first 1/2 stone or even something smaller... it makes you feel good each time one of these mini goals is achieved.

Best of luck!

well done with sticking to the plan for 3 days.... the 1st couple of days are always the hardest on any diet but soon it will just become your normal eating pattern. good luck with sticking to it for the long haul x

Thanks Claz, I'm glad I've taken that first step and made a start, I've been trying for a while now but giving up too easily. Well done on your weight loss.

Hi and welcome

Here's a bit of info to enable you to get the best out of the forum :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey :)

Hi Just4 and welcome, I know just what you mean with being busy, I generally prefer healthy foods but would always find myself busy till I was so hungry I'd grab anything which was usually junk on the table at work. The key I've found is preparation and planning, sometimes it feels like the last thing you want to do but it really does work if you make sure you take healthy meals and snacks with you to keep you well satisfied and away from the junk. I won't say there's never a hiccup but they are very occasional now and I've slowly lost almost a stone with another one and a half stone still to go. Good luck 😀

You've done the hard part, that first step! Stick with the site and you'll always find encouragement even on the days you slip up ( and we all get those 😕) . I've been a member here since 2014, slowly and steadily lost my 2.5 stone excess weight, and now in my third year maintaining it. I'm sure I'd have failed without the support on here.
