Hello ellenora and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

I've been where you are and can feel your frustration 😕 It's only a guess as I don't know all your details but 1000 calories is very low, it's important to eat enough or our bodies cling to fat. Please check your bmi and target calories on the NHS site.

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

Hi ellenora

What Anna61 has said is true. I'm loosing weight at a nice steady rate with eating 1600 Cal's a day.

I have LOADS of weight to loose so I checked on the nhs bmi checker , put in that I don't exercise and that's the number of calls it comes up with.

I didn't believe it so cut right down but it didn't work.

I now don't buy fat free, so called healthy eating foods. I have full fat, good fats and am learning portion control,

Stay with this site, you'll get loads of info and support 🌷

I too have limited mobility and no exercise. Your calories sound very low. I'm not expert but check your calories.

Hi ellenora

Have you thought about swimming as the water takes the weight off your feet? If you can't swim, even jumping around in the water is still exercise. I don't know how much weight you have to lose, but if you are embarrassed about being seen in a swimsuit, some pools have 'ladies nights' or special health sessions where larger people exercise together.

Hope that helps,

When I first joined I was eating the exact amount of calories as you and also wasn't losing weight. Someone here told me this was why I wasn't losing weight and was sometimes putting weight on instead as my body thought I was starving it and turned what I did eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does. I was told to check calories on the NHS bmi calculator as you get personal amounts on here which takes in your exercise details as well as few other details so calories are not average amounts. When I upped my calories to between the amounts it tells you to have to lose weight I started losing weight and have now lost 2st. Please don't make this same mistake because I made this mistake for years and never lost weight on any diet that I tried. Good luck with your journey.
