Fed up being fat!

Hi everyone πŸ‘‹ Newbie here introducing myself. I'm 48 years old, 3.5 stone overweight and fed up! I've tried all sorts of diets, lost some weight, hit a plateau , then slipped back into my bad eating habits. I do have a certain amount of will power, but when the weight stops coming off I do get deflated. I would love any tips and advice to keep me on the straight and narrow. I have a mini break coming up in September, and would love to lose 2 stone by then. 😊 It'll be tough, but I'm giving it my all.

hi Lozzy48 and welcome! I am trying to get healthy and possibly lose some weight as well. I don't set such goals as 2 stone in so many days or whatever... manly because I measure in pounds not stone as I am from Texas and don't know what a stone weight is! lol. anyway, I want to be healthy and at a healthy weight so I am trying to change my way of eating altogether not just get on a diet that will not last me and then I will gain all the weight back I lost to start with. my counselor told me to eat more veggies and fruit and whole grains and less chips which is the pits but so be it. I am trying to eat more fruit and stuff and so far it is working well. I have not really lost a lot but I feel better by not eating so much sugar and fat. I wish you all the luck and keep posting!!!! chin up doll, we can do this!

Stones are one of those weird British Imperial measurements! :)

There are 14 pounds in 1 stone.

oh yeh that is right.. I was thinking it was 7.. well in that case I am about 100 stone overweight? not really my math sux.. more like 6 or 7 realistically. I would like to weigh 145 pounds or 10 stone 5 pounds?

Not sure what your starting weight was, but 145lbs is 10 stone 5 lbs, so your math can't be too bad! :)

Don't worry, you can stick with pounds if it's easier, they just don't like you going back and forth between lbs and kilograms! ;)

my starting weight is 248 pounds as of today.. so I am going to make me a food diary and go shopping for some veggies and fruit later today

Hi and welcome Lozzy48 being overweight sucks. Lets be frank it does, I hate it and I always avoid it. there are so many people who have done exactly the same thing, lost a bit gained a bit, your not alone.

I've only been on this about a week now and the best thing for me is MyFitnessPal (an app) its great! it tells you how many calories you consume, what fat, protein, sugar etc.is in them. You can modify it to your situation and goals and its really motivational. When you finish your daily diary at the end it tells you how (statistically) how much weight you could loose if you keep it up. plus I downloaded it with MapMyRide which tracks any exercise. As I say I've not been at this long and im a sucker for quick results if I don't get them I tend to give up, but the app helps you change your mind set its not about quick results its about health and longevity and you will get there! The community here are really supportive, so don't fret allow yourself a slip up now and again don't overshoot and be patient, it will be worth it in the end! I wish the very best.

you are very wise april... being fat does suck so I call it being chubby. but that sux too. I am a sucker for quick results too and lost 16 pounds the first time I tried this forum but got lazy and quit. I recommend posting often which sort of makes you accountable to everyone who replies to you and keeps me focused. I want so desparately to be healthier that I have tried dangerous diets and practices before but now at my age (50) I just want to be able to walk better and without so much pain. I am going to try that MyFitnessPal... can I get it on an iPhone or where do I get it? thanks for the advice that was actually directed at someone else but which I can use! Chin up and good luck to us all!

Hey katy9617 yeah you can download straight from the app store to your iphone. I actually downloaded the app and went through the initial set up (either with your email or I did it through Facebook) and then you can go onto the website if you prefer to use a computer, anything you put on the main webpage will register with your app and vice versa. It can also be used as a pedometer so that may be handy :)

very handy and I cannot count the sheer number of steps I take a day! sometimes it is at least 10 or 12 lol... all kidding aside, thanks for the great advice, I will get it today

Hello Lozzy48 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

What a lovely photo of your four legged friend πŸ˜€ You are not alone in your experience of the weight loss see-saw. What has made a difference for me this time is finding an eating plan I can follow for life, generous calories and all my favourite foods. Please check you BMI on the NHS website to find your own personal target calorie range.

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

Morning, Lozzy! :)

I think all you can do is keep plugging away at it and not sweat those days that don't quite go to plan. It happens to us all and the trick is to regroup and keep going.

Good luck! :D
