newbie desperately seeking weight loss

Hi Everyone,

I hope your weekend has been enjoyable, and the sun has helped with weight loss. I'm 49 and recovering from a heart attack last September. Unfortunately due to a vast cocktail of drugs and giving up smoking, I have gained two and a half stone. My job involves food tasting and being surrounded by food all day, naturally I'm struggling to lose it. This forum seems very supportive and the 12 week plan seems doable, so here I am. Any tips to help me through the early days of sweet tooth cravings and mouth hunger would be appreciated. Have a great week.

Hi Mo1968

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

The best tip I can give you in plan your meals and keep a note of what you eat so you know exactly how many calories you have had each day.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

Hi Mo1968 i am sure you will be encouraged and find many examples to follow on here of successful weight losers. Set yourself mini goals that are achievable and reward yourself when you reach each one with a non-food reward.. having your hair done, a manicure or giving to charity.. Whatever you choose.

Cheering you on to your goals 🎉🎉🎉

mouth hunger? is that where you want to eat but are not truly hungry? oh boy my mouth is hungry all the time then. I am trying to wean myself off sweets right now, but as you say, it is easier said than done.

Hi Katy9617,

That' exactly what I mean by mouth hunger, I'm now beginning to understand why I was such a heavy smoker. Sugar is so hard to quit, good luck with your weaning off. I'm finding frozen grapes are helping me a bit as they're sweet, so when the mouth is hungry ( frequently) I pop one in and wait till it defrosts before chomping to gain the sweetness.
