25 kg weight gain after antidepressants

Hi, I'm Ana and is my first time in this forum.

I had to start taking antidepressants 4 years ago. In that time I was 58/60 kilos and I never had any problems with weight gain.

After 2 years on fluoxetine with clomipramine I put on 25 extra kilos.

I stopped with 2 years ago but I'm not losing weight even though I eat very little. Much less then when I was 60 kilos and even so I don't lose any weight and in fact If I try to eat normal like I use to eat before I put on more weight.

I even tried low carbs diet however seems like I start to have symptoms of low blood sugar after don't eat carbs for some hours so I have no idea what to do to lose weight.

Has anyone here similar experience?

Love 😊

Ana

Morning Ana_M

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Eating very little will not help you lose weight as your body will good into stravation mode and hold onto the weight, so use the BMI checker to work out your calorie allowance so you are eating a more healthy balanced plan.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hi there, I never used to eat much as I only ate around 1000cals a day and I never lost weight and even sometimes put weight on. When I joined here I was informed by someone that this was my problem. By not eating the right amount of calories as advised by the NHS bmi calculator to actually lose weight your body thinks you are starving it so it turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so you don't lose weight and sometimes put weight on instead. The calculator gives you two amounts that you can eat between and it doesn't matter if you eat anywhere in between these amounts but you shouldn't eat anywhere less as you will not then lose weight. Please don't make this mistake as I made this mistake for years. Good luck with your journey.
