Hi and welcome shanester123

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊 We also have a daily diary section which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :)

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

you've taken the first step and admitted that you need help, that's great start.

an admin will be along shortly to show you how to get the best from the forum.

I gradually eased myself into it by just looking and reading and then posting. its a great place full of great supportive people. if you would like to join a weigh in day you could join tomorrow, weigh yourself in the morning and post it on the weigh in post - then weigh every Thursday.

have a look through the daily diaries for some inspiration on meals and see how others plan there day

have you checked on the nhs bmi calculator to see what your daily intake should be?

the very best of luck with your journey and don't be afraid to ask for help!x

Hi shanester123

One of the forum administrators will reply with lots of useful info on how to get the most out of this forum. I have been using it since the beginning of the year and have found it helpful, informative and supportive. We have nearly all been where you are now but it really is possible to turn things around. I would suggest you list all the reasons why you want to lose weight to help you find your motivation. It has got to be something you want to do for yourself. For me it has been 80% about improving my health and life expectancy (I am nearly 65 and my Mum who was overweight, smoked like a trooper and drank like a fish was dead before she reached 70!) and 20% vanity - I still want to look good.

Keep it simple - if you Eat Less and Move More you will gradually lose weight. Try not to think so much about 'dieting' but more about permanent healthy lifestyle changes. It will take time but, weight lost slowly is much more likely to stay off than that quickly lost. Avoid fad diets - they do not work. If you can afford it, the one bit of kit I would recommend is a pedometer. I use a Fitbit but there are lots on the market. It is a great motivator on the Moving More front. So I wish you success but not luck because luck has nothing to do with weight loss. Daisy1925

Sorry you feel so low. First things first, 2 stone sounds a lot on your small frame but it is not really. Many people on this site have far more to lose than that. And getting rid of that in 6 months is entirely feasible. And as Daisy said, Eat Less and Move More is really all it's about :) And I personally believe in weighing yourself very frequently. Moving more could be a brisk walk every day, for example. If you can do an hour that would be great. And if you can combine this with ruthlessly cutting out the comfort eating (easier said than done, I know!) you will quickly see the weight start to drop.
