Hello everyone! A little about me...

Hi, I'm new to this community so I thought I'd confess my food/weight background. For a long time I have struggled with my weight, but more specifically, my eating habits. I worry in the mornings whether I will stick to the perfect calorie count, but eat away work stress in the evenings, though I know I will -and I do- feel sick and full and ashamed afterwards. I've joined because I'm sick of trying diets and disliking my body, i would like to have a healthy relationship with my body. I don't care how long it takes me to reach a healthy, happy weight -the time will pass anyway, right?- so I just want to change my habits so I reach a point where I don't spend the day thinking about food, or researching nutrition information and fad diet success stories in the evenings. I only have one body, and I want to take care of it. Anyone else experienced similar relationships with food? Lots of love, looking forward to being part of this community x

Hi and welcome, Lo_fall :)

I suspect that the majority of us have had/still have an unhealthy relationship with food and are now working hard to get away from diet mentality and onto a sustainable healthy lifestyle :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi there, welcome to the forum. When I first joined I had always tried many diets and never lost weight and was so annoyed. I only ate around 900-1000 calories and could never understand why I never lost weight. I found out on here that by not eating the amount of calories the NHS bmi calculator tells you to eat between to lose weight you never lose weight or else it thinks that you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat instead so that it can continue. This weighs more than the extra calories does and because it does it stops you from losing weight and means you sometimes puts weight on. Please don't make this mistake and make sure you are eating the right amount of calories. Good luck with your journey.

Hi Lo_fall,

Just wanted to say Hi and that I can so relate to your post, that your not alone with your struggles/relationship with food and trying for that perfect diet. I too have a poor relationship with food and it has ruined my self-esteem through overeating. I have started slowly by being kinder to myself and allowing myself not to be 'perfect'. Because no-one is! Good luck with your journey to a healthier happier you! x

Hello Lo_fall24

Your story really resonates with me, I've been where you are and all I can say you can change your relationship with food with time, your brain is your most powerful ally. Have a read through the resources section for useful articles and books etc. Also join the Daily Diary as this helps many of us 😊

Best wishes

Anna
