Have a look at the recipes/Meals/Snacks Topic and type snacks into the search box at the top right of your screen. You'll find dozens of suggestions :)

Hello Closer61girl and welcome to the forum 😊

You made me smile with

"Please don't say fruit and carrots" lol 😂

Seriously, if I'm hungry I eat. I personally don't have food as a 'treat' but after swimming I am usually starving and would have a meal, and if I can I have one prepared ready for when I get home.

The beauty of calorie counting is you can eat whatever you like, fruit and carrots too if you want 😊

Best wishes

Anna

I'm with Anna. Food isn't really a treat, although that doesn't mean at all that you can't enjoy it! I love food and love planning delicious meals. A treat for me is a nice magazine. Or a pot plant. (Yes I know that's weird 😄). It's a mindset we all have to break - we learn to stop thinking of food as a reward.

Have something to eat after swimming if you're hungry. I love the Aldi Harvest Morn cereal bars as they have a chocolate coating - 111 calories, and that can be part of your daily total.

I dont regard this as a treat, more of a hunger filler. So I'd probably suggest something high protein to fill the hunger gap, eg: a small bag of nuts , or a dollop of peanut butter on 2 oatcakes

I have one Jaffa cake in the evening with a cup of tea if I'm really in the mood for a treat. Saturday night is a glass or two of vino & a miny bar of cadbury chocolate👌🏻

If youve seen my diary, I have all sorts of snacks, i like Walkers french fries as theyre really tasty, crispy and take a while to eat. I agree with the others though, if youre hungry plan something maybe tweaking your other meals calories to allow for a sandwich, eggs on toast, soup, pasta etc?

I know what you mean, if I was really hungry after swimming fruit or carrots wouldn't help! But rather than eat something unhealthy afterwards I've learned to plan ahead and make sure I have something light but satiating 1-2 hours before exercising (in my case aquafit class) so Ive got enough energy for the class without being too full while I'm exercising but not shaky and starving afterwards. It took a while to get into the habit of planning like this but I feel so much better for it it was worth it now it's just part of my Wednesday routine 😀

Actually just read your post again and realised you're not just talking about the swimming days. On the other days could you maybe tweak the timings of your meals or experiment with which foods keep you satiated for longer to try to head off the 5pm slump ?

Is it a feeling of being really empty and hungry around 5 pm? In that case I would plan a decent snack earlier in the afternoon. (Mind you, I usually eat at 6 anyway so I would prob just hang on - but if you eat later you won't be wanting to do that!)

Or are you just after something full of flavour but low-cal? I can often get by with just a taste of something. Pickled onions, check the label but the ones I have are something like 7 cals each. Tesco mini meringues, 19 cals each (mind you, they are teeny and delicious so you will prob want more!)

If that's not going to do the trick, I also like Total fat-free greek yog (NB check you've got the fat-free, there are other kinds). It's a set plain Greek yogurt, really delicious, only 57 cals per 100g and it doesn't taste fat-free, if you see what I mean!

Sometimes I'll drink a huge glass of water before I start to make the dinner, makes me feel a bit full and keeps me from snacking as I cook.

But as others say, really you can have anything, provided you plan it into your day and shave the calories off elsewhere.

What a about snack a jacks, or low calorie crisps like pom bears or space raiders, or a alpine bar, these are about 70 to 100 calories.
