Losing weight while breastfeeding

Hi. I am struggling to find a balance between loosing weight and maintaining my milk supply. Deny advice?

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Maybe you can talk to your midwife about how to maintain your milk while healthy eating.

I have 2 snacks everyday and have still managed to lose just over 5st so you don't have to cut out your snacks just change them for healthier ones. Have a look at the Daily Diary to see what other members are eating. Why not come along and join in with today's weigh in!

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Drink a lot of water. Make sure you are eating at the top end of your calorie allowance as it burns 500kcal a day exclusively breastfeeding. X

HI, I breast fed all 3 of my children and I didn't try to lose weight while feeding. I fed for more than a year each time. I just cut out junk food and replaced it with healthy nutritious food. I didn't go hungry at all to ensure I didn't endanger my milk supply. If I felt hungry I ate something but I went for proper, healthy food rather than snack food. If I was out I would carry some fruit and nuts in a bag.

I found that I did lose weight slowly while breastfeeding doing this and when I stopped feeding my appetite went down appreciably and the last few pounds went without any effort at all.

As previously mentioned, drink plenty of fluids. Not too much fruit juice, tea and coffee and no sugary drinks. I drank water and semi-skimmed milk mostly although I still had several mugs of tea each day.

Always remember the mantra of successful breast feeding " the more often the baby sucks the more milk you will make".

Enjoy, breast feeding is one of life's greatest pleasures and satisfactions. IMO anyway.
