Hi I have been gaining weight for the last 18 yrs every time I go on a diet I lose 2-4 lbs first week then nothing after. I have tried combining with exercise and still nothing. So I am trying again now I have been told I'm intolerant to gluten, tomatoes and coconut. With fresh eyes and your help. Thanks.

Hi and welcome, lynds :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Welcome to the forum. I am losing weight for my wedding despite the fact that my fiancé and I haven't set a date for our wedding yet. I am currently following Slimming World but weighing in at my mum's house instead of going to the meetings. I have lost 7 1/2lbs in the last 5 weeks. I love the forum and I appreciate the support that I get from other forum members as well as family and friends.

My Lynds,

Welcome! :)

An intolerance to gluten can be a pain to work around at first, but it's not as bad these days as there's lots of stuff out there now and loads more awareness. As my stepdaughter is a coeliac I've had to get used to reading the labels of EVERYTHING, even those things you might not think contain any gluten-containing ingredients. My biggest piece of advice is to try to avoid pre-packaged/processed foods as much as possible as that tends to be the biggest issue. I find it a lot easier to cook from scratch so I don't have to worry about stray ingredients or cross-contamination. :)

Oh, and I found the Coeliac UK website hugely helpful at first. They've got all sorts of advice and information.

Good luck and Good eating. :D

Do make sure you have been eating enough calories as well though. A mistake I always made was that I was not eating enough calories as I should. I always thought by eating less I would be more likely to lose weight. I found out on here when I wasn't losing any weight at the beginning that by not eating enough calories our body thinks we are starving it so it turns what we are eating into body fat so that it ensures it can continue. Body fat weighs more than the extra calories would so it means you don't end up losing any extra weight and occasionally can put more weight on. Hope u are not making this mistake too. Good luck with your journey.
