Things to avoid:

Anything with a creamy sauce or lots of almonds (e.g. korma, pasanda)

Fried things (pakora, bhaji, poppadoms, puri)

Usually good:

I think anything Tandoori is usually good - but again not with a sauce.

Usually tomatoey curries are good.

Or a dhal (contains lentils/ chickpeas instead of meat).

Plain boiled rice or a chapati. Not pulao rice.

Fish or prawns ... but again not with a creamy sauce.

And ask advice - say you're trying to avoid anything rich or creamy.

Personally I would choose Tandoori chicken (no sauce) and a side dish of spinach/tomato curry. I wouldn't bother with rice but I might have a chapati. And I would watch the alcohol - I'd go for diet pop of some kind or an alcohol-free beer.

Ooh have a lovely meal!

Thank you so much very helpful I love Dahl so that maybe an option 😊

Hi Shellygirl, as bikegrrrl says, tandoori chicken is your best bet, dahl, plain rice, all good. You could also get some raita as the chicken and rice combo can be a little dry, it's a yoghurt and cucumber sauce so shouldn't be too bad.

Usually curry nights are a sharing occasion so a spoonful of something else won't break the bank and will zing up the flavor's a little.

But be mindful of overdoing the portion size (sharing dishes again), booze and forego the pud and you'll be right.

lol I'm not a pud person so that's good ... thank you for advice I make my own raita sometimes so will have some as you say plain chicken can be dry ... thank you so much for your reply great advice 😊

To be honest I have yet to see a decent pudding in a curry shop, usually it's a selection of ice cream in amusingly shaped containers!

Choose the pickle selection to start, tikka pieces or tandoori chicken, without the sauce, as main (with a salad on the side), alongside a helping of yoghurt, and opting for a chapatti/popadoms over naan bread.

Again, tomato based dishes, as opposed to cream based dishes, will contain fewer calories but will still be calorific, due to the amount of ghee used.

Another option could be Biryani.

I thought about biryani but wondered about the rice as it's probably pilau ... going to ask if they can leave ghee out maybe worth a try ... thank you for your reply 😊

Possibly ask if the Biryani could be made with boiled rice.

try something with a tomato based sauce rather than cream like korma/masala, share rice. Share naan or even better do without. I used to always go for tikka masala but now much prefer patia which is spicier but to me a lot less calorific!

Patia not heard of that one 😳

as it's my new favourite! Haven't had an Indian meal now in about 3months but its lovely if you like a bit of heat. I always find that Indian meals can fill you up quite quickly so eat slow if you don't already and stop when you feel full. No shame in leaving some.πŸ‘ enjoy, now you're making me want to book a table!😁

Thank you so much .. I do like heat so think it might be good to try something new 😊

Hi there, biryani is a good option as well as the tandoori chicken with boiled rice or salad if they do one as not all do. One thing you shouldn't do is have a poppadum as they are about 70-90 calories each at most Indians I think. If I have a drink when I go out I always ask for a tea as I tell them I don't like soft drinks and have gone off alcohol. This way I don't have to have anything with too many calories. I ask for this wherever I go even if I go to the pub to meet people as everywhere seems to do it.

I would go for chicken or king prawn tikka, not have rice but have a chapati I guess steering away from poppadum would also be important.

Thank you Ido likes popadom but will avoid them as I don't want to jeopardise a weight loss... I will be ok with maintain this week but definitely don't want a gain so I'm hoping I can find something less calorific πŸ‘πŸ»
