Hi all

I'm Dorsetbrummie, busy mum to 3 young children. Am just at the end of week 1 and have started by keeping a food and mood journal. It seems when the kids are in bed or i get 5 minutes to myself, i am rewarding myself or relaxing with food. This has added up to the state i find myself in now. I don't think i have lost anything this week but i have increased drinking water. I find it difficult keeping track of calories too, especially homecooked meals...does anyone have any tips? I don't always have time to look online at calorie counter. I walk a lot with the kids so that isn't an issue. I know i need to cut the wine out as that is full of sugar. I did join SW for a while and got a good result but the weight crept back on when i got complacent.

How much should i expect to lose each week?

Hi and welcome Db :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

welcome, i too gave three young kids so i know its difficult to get the time. I make time in the evening's when they're in bed to plan menus for at least the next two days. Helps to keep me in control. I've just finished second week and have 8.5lbs off but then i do gave a lot to lose. Everyone is different.

suggestions to you are: Join a weigh in group-you can weigh whatever day you like, i like Friday as it gets it out if the way and if we go out at the weekend and i might end up over my calories then i can sort of make up for it before another weigh in. Join the daily diary, where you write down all you plan on eating, along with the calories. Focuses you and less likely to eat u planned things. Have you had a look at the BMI calculator on the NHS website? See what your intake should be and try to stick to it.

onwards and downwards! Good luck.🍀

oh and stay active in here, good and bad day posts are welcome, there's no judging, just support and advice!😘

Welcome to the forum. I am losing weight for my wedding although my fiancé and I haven't set a date yet. I am following Slimming World but I am weighing in at my mum's house instead of going to classes because I am saving for my wedding and I am in the process of moving. I have lost 4lbs in the last 3 weeks. I like this forum and find it useful. I also like the support I get from other members as well as family and friends.

Well done Dorsetbrummie on being here! I think the key thing is consistency, and being honest about portion sizes - that's my particular one! I am just at the end of my fourth week, and I've lost around 6lbs, and that was with a rather erratic middle two weeks. This forum is very helpful for keeping you going when you have a 'blip', and seeing that people do get results when they stick with it is really inspiring.

I also have 3 kids, so I don't always get to post on here when I'd like, but i'm going my best to dash on and do the daily diary. I also plan a week's worth of family dinners each Sunday evening, which means I"m not having to think about it every day. If you google meals within a certain calorie range (4-500 for example) it's helpful to get the portion sizes, and also the bbc website puts the amount of calories per portion, which is useful. If it's more than you want to eat at that meal, you can have a smaller amount and make up the rest of the plate with vegetables/salad. I think that side of things (guess-timating amounts) gets easier after a little while. And the NHS 12-week plan gives some guidelines about amounts, which could be useful.

Look forward to seeing you on here :)
