New with lots to lose

Hi everyone - I have just joined up and have 50kg / 8.5 stone that I want to lose. It's a big goal but one that I'm willing to work hard to smash. Is there a forum or thread for those of us who have a significant amount of weight to lose?

Thanks!

Hi, welcome! There isn't a specific bit for people with lots to lose, people reply to each other generally but you can follow people that you are interested in or can relate to. If you join a daily weighin you can become part of a close group and watch each other shrink. I am in the Saturday group and we are lovely! I believe you can lose that weight , it will take time but if you start today you will soon feel better. I have lost almost 6 stone but still weigh 17 stone 1 so I know what having a big goal feel like. Break it down into smaller bits. I aim to lose a stone every couple of months now although it was faster at the start. Good luck! 🤞

Hi emmagem and welcome.

Each day's weigh-in is posted the day before. You can find it by clicking on 'Home' then you will see it in 'Events' on the right hand side when you scroll down or at the bottom of the page if you're using a mobby.

Right now you'll see Thursday's weigh-in which you could introduce yourself to now if you wanted.

Good luck!

Hi Emma, welcome to the forum.

I just wanted to wish you well really. I had a lot of weight to lose too and according to the charts I should lose another stone to be in the healthy weight range, but I'm so happy at this weight I've decided to settle here for a while.

I've found it's been important to think long term right from the very start because I know I've got to live with these lifestyle changes for ever. The single most important thing that I learned was to eat enough calories rather than to cut down too drastically - have you checked out the NHS BMI calculator? If not it will give you a suggested calorie range for your age and activity level. I didn't believe that I could eat so much on a diet at first, but decided to give it a try and this is the first time my weight has come off steadily and hasn't stuck after a couple of stone.

Exercise is great, but I had to build up very slowly because this time last year I was very unfit and couldn't walk far, but as the weight comes off you will feel more active and confident and it will be more fun and easier to exercise.

Thinking of small, manageable goals and trying not to think of just the goal weight itself helps because it doesn't seem so overwhelming then. Each pound that you lose and keep off is it's own success story so enjoy the journey and give yourself lots of non-food treats for each success along the way. The people on this forum are wonderful and supportive and have made such a big difference in my life so you couldn't have come to a better place.

Good luck x
