First target to lose 13kg

Just registered. Interesting the BMI tells me that me that I should weigh between 60&80kg. I weigh 103kg so must lose about 30kg+ ideally. My old GP, now retired, told me that I probably shouldn't weigh less than 88kg because I looked ill then. Still that was a long time ago. My first aim is to get to 90kg then check again. That'll be a challenge enough as I haven't been there since the millennium!

Hello Rich456 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Welcome Rich, I've also found that the middle of the BMI is going to be too low for me, so now I'm in the Healthy BMI range, I'm just going to call it a day when I'm happy with what I see in the mirror.

Everyone's different so the BMI calculators aren't a catchall but they do give you a reasonable idea of where you sit and the NHS one seems to have been spot on in regards to the range of calories I needed to consume in order to lose weight at a sensible rate.

Whilst setting yourself an initial loss of 13kg is admirable, it's not likely to happen straight away. May I suggest you make that some kind of mid-term goal and set yourself a mini goal such as getting below 100kg. It can help when goals appear imminently achievable and it's always a nice uplift each time we reach one.

All the best.

Welcome to this fantastic forum. i know what your GP meant. I look positively skeletal at supposed healthy BMI. I know because I've been there! Might I suggest that you set your goals lower, perhaps a half stone at time. That lets you celebrate as each one is reached and we get to cheer you on. It's so much easier when goals are not on the horizon but within reach. I agree with Tiggerr about settling when what you see in the mirror makes you happy. Good luck.🤗
