Desperate, need stop eating buddy

Hi I'm a young 64 and desperately need to lose 14 lbs, it doesn't sound much but it may as well be a 100 lbs , no matter what I do I can't seem to shift it, so if anyone wants someone to encourage, rant at etc then we can help each other, I'm good at recipes and calorie counting as well.

I tend to weigh in on a Monday because I have a couple of treats over weekend.

I await a rush of replies, it doesn't have to be just one it could be a couple.

Hi and welcome, Alexandria :)

The way this community works, is that we'll all be your weight loss buddies :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi yea I would be about 5 stone if I could cut out the rubbish, I have decided to not buy it from now on, if its not in the house then I want be able to eat it.

I have done everything to try to get past this point, I know its eating alone that makes me fat

Hi Alexandria

Hopefully you'll find lots of inspiration and useful tips here on the forum to help you get started/motivated.

I'm doing my my own diet, which is calorie controlled but I don't weigh food at all as that's too much fuss for me, I just guesstimate, watch portion control and have cut out sugar food. In 13 weeks I've lost one and a half stone and feel energised. I want to lose one more stone so as a motivator I've bought a new dress that's too small.

You've made me smile. I quote........'no matter what I do I can't seem to shift it,........ I tend to weigh in on a Monday because I have a couple of treats over weekend.' 😀

Yep, treats were my nemesis too 😀 Hope we can swap recipes 😄

Yea swapping recipes would be good, as I said in previous reply, no more rubbish food in house, will put it in my she shed LOL joking I think.

I have never been this big in my life and its getting to me, I hear people say its age and I don't agree, its I have discovered food

Weight has nothing to do with age, but it is ageing I think. Feeling big is horrible so taking back control is empowering for both mind and body.

You need a plan to keep you on track, so you could perhaps follow the 12 week plan here on this site or devise your own diet.

Keeping a food journal and graph are important visual aids and having your main goal marked by mini targets, such as half stone markers makes the journey easier. Sooner than you think, a good diet just becomes an enjoyable part of your daily life.

If you take yourself in hand, don't make your diet tricky of boring, you will rapidly see that weight drop off and your graph visibly showing results.

You can do it 👍⭐️

I wish you good luck and hope the NHS 12 week plan gives you a good place to start.

However, you really have got to want this enough. That may sound b-obvious but I was like you a few years ago, always wanted to lose a stone or so and never did. The ONLY way in my opinion is to first understand exactly how much your personal body needs, ( your TDEE and BMR) and then record what/how much you're actually eating. Yes it means planning, weighing foods, a food diary and calorie count. Do this for a few weeks, even if its only to get you into good habits . From my experience guessing doesn't work long term.

Most of all, don't think of this a "going on a diet to lose a stone", it is actually about retraining habits to last a lifetime otherwise like so many "dieters" we simply regain the weight.

I was 2 stone overweight 3 years ago, then age 62. I lost it slowly 1400 cals a day over eleven months and have since maintained it for two years. You can do this at any age, honestly 😊

Yea I know, I have never had to diet before and even now my BMI is fine, I need to lose it as I'm on crutches and getting that stone off will hopefully make it not such a strain on shoulders and arms etc, I am on 1400 cal a day and I think my body has got used to it, I don't want to go down to 1200 as using crutches does use a lot of energy which tires me out so having less calorie intake would possibly make me even more tired.

I did consider weight watchers or slimming world but looking at cost I'm thinking its out of my pocket range.
