Starting again as enough is enough

I checked my profile on this site this morning to see when I signed up and was shocked to find that a year had passed already and in that time I've put even more weight on. I'm now trying to find motivation to get myself sorted out. I'm annoyed and disappointed that I've let myself get like this. I've kept food diaries for years which have been helpful to identify triggers leading to binge eating. I'm an emotional eater, when I'm stressed I eat, when I'm down I eat, if I'm happy I eat, it's biscuits, cakes, crisps nothing of any benefit that I reach for. I'm 55 this year and I really don't want to continue feeling fat, frumpy & constantly tired, my promise to myself today is to stop eating rubbish and get moving. It's a beautiful day today so I'm heading out for a walk in the sunshine to get started. Thanks for listening, I'll continue to read the posts on this site for support and to keep me going, Good luck everyone on your journey and thank you to everyone who submits a post as they are really helpful.

Hi Talamanca 04, welcome back!

Just had a quick peek at your profile, and it has been just over a year, also noticed you've posted twice, once to say hi, and again to say hi, I'm back!

First tip, use the forum more, we've all got a similar goal in mind, eating healthier, exercising more, lose some weight. The more you engage with the forum the more support you will get. If you've been reading the posts you know there's a lot of supportive people out there, get stuck in and join in. It's amazing how congrats for a good week will make you feel, and advice on getting over a bad day, getting it behind you and giving you the resolve to get back on track.

Posts like the daily plan add accountability, and help you stick to your promise to yourself. If you're having a tough time maintaining the resolve to do this there are those here that can bolster it.

At the end of the day you're making the choice, and you're making it happen.

Good luck and enjoy your walk, tell us how it went, tell us what you're going to do tomorrow, and the next day, we'll be here egging you on. Just be true to yourself and to us and we'll get there.

Stevo5585 makes good sense! Use the forum regularly as it helps you to know you are not alone and to keep focussed. You can do this 🤞

EllaMidlands thanks for the motivation with the support from participating in the forum I'm sure I'll have success.

Stevo5585 I will try and use the forum more - thanks. So far today I managed to do a 5 mile walk which took 1hr and 5 minutes and I have to admit I was a bit worse for wear after that, I'm sure it'll get easier as I go on,

Good job Talamanca, the trick is to set yourself up for the long haul. That weight didn't appear overnight, or even in a week or a month. Get into a routine you can maintain and the weight will come off.

it does I looked ay my walking app and since January I have knocked 8mins off my time with a particular walk. I have gone from a 17-18min mile rate to 13-14min mile with the occassional dip into 12min/ml range and I dont' feel too breathless. I find music with a fast beat helps- I have noticed that if its a slow beat my speed unitentionally slows as well and when I do walk faster I am aware that I'm making a conscious effort which I don't notice with an upbeat song. So I now have a walking playlist on my mobile!

RG07 - Good idea with the playlist, I'll do that and see how that works, thanks.

Hi and welcome back Hidden

I did exactly the same and re-joined January, I hit my biggest in October last year did my normal lost a stone, nothing was happening so I'll have a chocolate, a biscuit some crisps it won't hurt, so yo-yo here we go again 😱 then in January I decided enough was enough re-joined got some fantastic advice on no diet just healthy eating and I definitely don't exercise I have fun swimming, cycling and walking I've even started kettle works 😱💪

I've made small changes that I can stick to, and slowly but surely the weight is coming off, I've taken the pressure of I don't need to do it by a certain date.

Also I've become as involved as I can in the forum, trust me it really does make a difference maybe join a challenge, give some support, 😆

What ever you decide, I wish you all the best on your journey, you can change and you can do this 💪🏆

Hello and welcome back to the Weight Loss Forum Hidden Very well done on being brave coming back to us. To celebrate your return I'm giving you a Newbie badge even though you aren't technically new. This can also serve as a reminder that what is past is past and today is a new day. 😊

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. I know you have had this message before but a few things have changed. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺. This is hugely popular and I use it every day, please join us RIGHT NOW as this is a massive help re-gaining control.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Many thanks Anna for the summary of the content of the site, I will have a look and see what I can get involved in and let you know how I get on.
