Wake up call

I've been away for a while because my Mum's very ill. I weighed myself today for the first time in ages and found myself to be 1 stone heavier than I was in January. Mum's illness has been an ordeal and I've let myself eat lots of sweet things. Planning meals has also been difficult. I'm going on holiday at the end of the week and none of my holiday clothes fit. All in all it's a bit of a disaster.

Oh Eh15 so sorry to hear you've been having a hard time and your mum has been so ill. I think we'd all hit the sugar or feel good food!

Where is your holiday? X

Sorry to hear this. I do hope you enjoy your holiday. Buy something new to wear if necessary and then start again when you get back. Be kind to yourself as what's done is done! Good luck for your reboot once you get back 🤞

I got some new larger clothes as the shorts I had wouldn't go past the tops of my legs. The last time I had them on was October. Thanks for your good wishes

Hi Eh15

It is understandable that you have not been on track while looking after your mum, hope she improves soon. Don't worry about any gain it can soon be turned around when your more focused. Why not start again after your holiday. Take care of yourself and have a lovely time on holiday.

Hi Rose, I've decided to start this week with a bit of walking and healthy Greek food on holiday. I'm teetotal so that helps .

Hi Eh15 first of all I am sending ❤️❤️❤️. I too am nursing a very sick mum. My organisation and meal planning has gone off the radar and I was relying on junk food and sugar to help.

However, what I have realised is that I need to feel 100% to look after my mum. This was the kick I needed! I'd felt sorry for myself and justified every single bad food choice I made, but weighing up good food choices against what my mum is going through, gave me the kick I needed! If she can face cancer with bravery and dignity, the least I can do is make decent food choices.

Please don't think I am being 'holier than thou' - it's taken me 6 months to get here, but my mum deserves a fit, healthy daughter there to support, not someone who is too tired/ stressed/ overweight to manage. Sending you lots of love and support. It's hard, but we can do this!!!! X

Thanks. I'very been very conscious that my Mum would love nothing more than for me to be healthy. She has been concerned about my weight for many years and I'd love nothing more than for her to see me making healthy choices before she died.

Eh15 this is all just part of life's rich tapestry. I know the impact I had on my family when I was extremely ill just before Christmas, and for the next couple of months. Eating sensibly has to have been the last thing on your mind and you were probably mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted.

Go on holiday, really enjoy it, and then come back and start again from where you are.

take care

Eh15 , I can commiserate with you, April was a very hard month for me due to my Mum's illness. It is very hard to stay on track. We think eating sweet things will give us more energy and after a hard time think we deserve it. It doesn't help in any way what so ever, but we are only human. Enjoy the new clothes and the holiday, don't worry about the weight until you get back. Enjoy the break away and use it as a time to refuel. When you come home you will see things in a different light and may be able to work out a new routine that allows you time for you. Take care.

I understand how you feel. When I was caring for my mum I used to buy all sorts of treats to eat with her like cream cakes and chocolate to get her to eat as she lost her appetite. My weight went up and up. After she died it took ages for me to get out of the habit of buying little treats for myself. Now I feel more in control to lose the weight and get fit but it has taken a while.

We have all shown our love for people by giving food, and in your circumstances you gave mum sweet treats for all the right reasons.

In short doses No food is evil in my opinion.

Im sorry your mum has been ill, its not surprising that you ate a bit more during that time,

I know that feeling when we don't weigh for ages and when we eventually step on the scales it's a real shock. In my case I didn't weigh for several years, just bought looser clothes, then eventually I weighed myself one day in 2014, and I was actually 2 stone heavier !!

BUT today is the first day of the rest of your life, so just start making some little changes now that will help you gradually fit into those clothes again. The NHS 12week plan is a good place to start.
