Newbie (Who's been quietly reading for a month or so...)

Hello, I am 27, and my weight has yo-yo'd since I was 16 or so, and I am now at the point where I would like to take control, and get myself living a healthy lifestyle before I find it too hard to change.

I also had an accident a few years ago, and had surgery on my knee, so any extra weight I carry means more pain. It also makes it a little more difficult to exercise, but I do lots of cycling and hula-hooping!

I need to loose about 15kg, well, 11kg now. The next step for me is cutting wine, and upping the exercise! ( How does everyone find the motivation to actually do it? )

Well, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself :)

Hi victoria-anne

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Thankyou for all the useful info! I will have to think twice about the photos then - I couldn't quite bring myself to do it, but perhaps I should. :)

I will join in the weigh ins, too. Thankyou!

Hi victoria-anne

The photo's are just for you to see the changes over a period of time you don't have to share them with anyone if you don't want too.

Look forward to seeing you at one of the weigh ins.

Hi victoria-anne and welcome.

Sorry to hear about the knee, though like you say, it should help it if it has to carry less weight.

When I started my lifestyle change back on Jan 1 (I know, a cliched time to start), I didn't intend to do anything much about my alcohol intake except reduce it. I then found myself cutting out hard alcohol to allow myself more calories in the day to eat the food I like and then I ended up cutting out beer and wine because it used to sabotage my willpower in the evenings. So for me it was just a case of it seeming necessary in order to stay on track with the new life I was/am trying to carve out.

Exercise is a personal thing but I'd suggest sticking only to things that you enjoy and of course, what your knee can deal with.

A few years ago I stopped drinking, and I lost a lot of weight - so it is definitely an incentive to do it again!
