  • Hello Midni and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

    Best wishes

  • Congratulations- I am doing the NHS 12 week weight loss programme and on most weeks I lost 1-2lbs a week and when I didn't I had an obvious cause- long weekend away with the girls and parents visiting for a week! Its based on calorie counting and trying to keep to 1400/day- I have a programme I was given access to by work but some use an app I think its Map My Fitness, but I'm sure someone will correct me!

2 stones in 3 months is probably slightly unrealistic since its only recommend to loose 1-2lb per week if you want to improve chances of it staying off- you would have to loose 2-3lb per wee- maybe a stone would be more realistic and maybe able to achieve 1.5 stones if you loose 2lb every week.

As well as looking at your food intake and type you also need to try and increase exercise levels

  • Hello Midni Keep a reminder of the wedding in your kitchen and look for an outfit in a magazine similar to how you want to look and keep looking at it Keep reminding yourself how much you will regret it afterwards if you don't lose it You have time

My son gets married in July and it's what has motivated me to lose weight be really tough with yourself keep telling yourself there's no excuse for snacking you don't need it

Don't have anything unhealthy in your house After the wedding you can be a bit kinder and have treats Good luck it will all be worth it 😉

  • Hi Midni

I've just lost 2 stone in 3 months - so its definitely possible. I started by reading a book called Overcoming Weight Problems written by a clinical psychologist and a dietician - it is not a diet book. Frankly 'diets' don't work in the long term but what does is a permanent change of habits. Losing weight is not rocket science - we need to Eat Less and Move More. I have lost nearly 2/3rds of the weight I want to lose and still feel very motivated to carry on with what I hope is a change to a much healthier lifestyle.

The most important thing is motivation and your daughter's wedding will help a lot! It is not about will power. However, if you want to lose weight and keep it off you then you need to be thinking about the other positive reasons for losing weight. Mine was wanting to be healthy, fit and active even at 65! The eating habits I changed were stopping alcohol (quite a big factor in the reason I got overweight) and keeping to 1400 calories a day. I try to eat a diet high in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat and oily fish.

I also walk LOTS - I can't do vigorous exercises because of joint problems but I like walking and have an active dog (my own personal trainer!). I also purchased a Fitbit to keep track of my activity levels. Today I walked 45299 steps, 19.5 miles and climbed the equivalent of 160 floors.

Good luck and I hope you reach your target. Daisy1925

  • I am also 65 and agree with your reply. Thank you. Will take it on board.

  • If you want to see a difference in the 3 months, I'd recommend following the Couch to 5k programme too - on this website. Even if, like me, you've never contemplated running (I still don't think of myself as a runner) it's a step by step programme that will improve your body shape as you work on your weight loss. Combined with the 12 week weight loss, I t's made a huge, noticeable difference to how I look and an even bigger difference to how I feel when I look in the mirror. (I'm in my 50s and have never even broken into a trot before!)

    Good luck!

  • The LCHF diet is proven to be the best for weight loss. There is plenty of information on this forum, on this topic. I have personally lost 13 kg so far.
