Hi all,

I'm Zoe. 17st 10lbs. Really have to lose weight for my health and personal sanity!

I have tried every diet under the sun and it hasn't worked.

I feel sad and quite ashamed of myself and quite honestly embarrassed.

Really don't know where to start..

Hello zc81 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊

Please don't feel ashamed or ambarrassed, your weight is just a number and does not define you as a person.

Here are a few suggestions for getting the best out of the forum.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Hi Zoe. I'm Emma and and almost the same weight as you. I have severe arthritis in my knee and need a partial reconstruction and my consultant said on Monday they can't do it because I'm too obese 😢 it's gutted me because I'm in so much pain and he spoke to me like I was an imbecile. It really made me cry. Anyway, I'm trying to motivate myself to do this for a way to become pain free hopefully!! You can do this ❤️

Please don't cry. Your consultant 's attitude shames his profession. You've found tge the right place for support. No one here will speak to you like an imbecile. One of the admins will give you lots of information and there will always be someone here to lend a listening ear and make suggestions etc. We've all been there. That's why we joined the forum. Good luck and hold your head high. You'll show that excuse for a doctor. 🤗🤗🤗

Hello Emma don't despair and don't think you can't exercise and it won't come off I haven't been able to do a thing for the past 10 months but I did it and lost a lot

Just had a hip replacement whilst I didn't have to lose it for the operation it has definitely helped my recovery

I'm so sorry to hear the way you were spoken to - disgusting 😡keep his words and attitude in your head and promise yourself you will show him

Think how wonderful it will be to be pain free I was in the most excruciating pain and I feel I've won the lottery now it's gone

You can do it

Thank you Cat. That's exactly what has spurred me on. I am going to prove him wrong!! I told him I lost a lot of weight last year. It have put a lot back on due to depression from being in pain all the time 😕 and he laughed at me and told me that it was still far to high a body weight for my height - I had lost 5 stone!!!! He then said when I lose weight I have to prove I can keep it off. I just feel I'm being fobbed off 😢 thank you for your kind words though.... it really does help ❤️❤️❤️

Right this is it now just you prove him wrong

I'm glad I helped a bit and I'm sending you snoodledoodle hugs You will be pain free soon just like I am

Take good care xx

Be positive, believe in your self and pay no heed to someone in the medical profession who chooses to reduce you to tears.

Hi Zoe

Welcome, and you've made a good start by joining in the forum. I'm sure you'll find loads of like-minded people here who will offer encouragement and be a mine of useful info and tips.

The main thing about dieting is that it can seem utterly daunting at first, but the great motivator, for me anyway, is once those initial pounds begin to come off and my graph is on the downward trend, I find that quite thrilling. There's no need to hurry because the journey should just be part of the day.

Do you enjoy cooking and how about gentle exercise?

I feel sure you can do this, it will be exciting for you as you see the pounds drop bit by bit. You'll feel better then. 🙂

Good luck!

I found the biggest kick up the beep was to find a photo of me looking big and one that I couldn't look at without feeling ashamed upset and embarrassed I kept it on my kitchen notice board ( always hiding it when I knew people were coming 😐)

Also if anyone had ever made an unkind comment about my weight I wrote it down and just how it made me feel It also made me determined to show that person I could look good

I know how hard it is but once you get that determination you can do it

Keep posting and we will all give you loads of support

Good luck ☘☘☘

Hi Zoe, stop dieting and go for a lifestyle change as then it is more likely to be sustainable. It is also much more positive and becomes an adventure with food. Make good food your friend and ditch any processed food or use of sugar.

Come on the folrum regularly and join in the conversations and challenges. We are all here for the same reason and none of us have any magic solutions. The weightbtook a long time to,accumulate and will take some time to leave you.

I wish you well.

I think it's a mindset thing...perhaps you need to move away from thinking 'diet' and instead think, 'lifestyle.' You CAN eat the things you like so don't make those off-limits as you will immediately want to throw the towel in. Eat the things you want here and there, perhaps only once a day and factor it in to the calorie count. Obviously I'm talking small treats - chocolate, crisps etc and not fast food etc.

Celebrate small goals and perhaps put personal incentives/reward in place

Your reply to Zoe really gave me comfort I'm just home from having a hip replacement I've done really well with my weight loss but since the operation I felt I have too much else to contend with to worry about my weight too at the moment So I've given myself a little break and having treats then started feeling guilty Reading your reply is exactly the way I am eating Im still being good but I'm factoring in little treats too and it's so nice So no more guilt like you say I'm not having fast food I'll soon be well and exercising too

I love this forum not sure how I coped with weight loss before I found it Thank you xx
