First steps

I am new and have been unhappy with my weight for a long time. The last few years anyway since a break up. I weighed myself for the first time the other day and it looks like I am obese at 15 stone! I hope this is a start to a new happier, healthier me :(

Hi Hidden

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

A good start laneyhol. If you haven't taken measurements, it can be worthwhile doing so... there may well be times when your weight may not change over a period of time but your measurements will (as your body adjusts)... definitely happened to me for a while.

Good luck!

Hi Tiggerr,

Will do.

Thanks for the advice.

Welcome Hidden you are definitely in the right place for support and encouragement. Please don't expect you weight to drop off as if by magic. Like the rest of us you will need to think about the lifestyle changes you want to make.

Whatever you do needs to be sustainable so dig in for the long haul. It is always good to avoid processed foods and adding sugar to anything.

Think about your trigger points and how you are going to overcome them.

Above all be pleased with your decision to reduce your weight and make it an adventure with food.

Good luck

Hi, I hope you find the lovely people on the forum as much help as I have over the few weeks I have been on it. I have always shyed away from things like this because I find it difficult to talk to people I don't know. But everyone has been so wonderful and supportive. I enjoy reading the posts and hearing about other people's journeys is helping me on mine.

in reply to dragonrose

Hi Dragonrose,

Thanks for your email.

I am quite similar to you but also so relieved that I am not alone.

I am quite self conscious, perhaps because I have lost so much confidence in the last few years.

So taking some outdoor exercise has been a struggle but I have been out twice this week and I am following a baby steps to 5k app.

I have also been shocked by how many calories there are in things like coconut milk! So I know where I have been going wrong, I just need the willpower and determination to succeed.

I have enjoyed reading the posts too and am really glad that I found this site :) and that there are so many supportive and kind people out there.

Hi Laneyhol, I'm sorry I haven't replied to you I have not been well this last week so have not been on the forum. It sounds like you are on the right track to getting moving. I haven't been brave enough to look at the site yet. Mind you I have two ponies that keep me moving.

Goodluck with your weight loss. Speak soon Dragonrose.
