Starting a fresh

I've always been big but now I'm at 16st and amn 5ft 7in it needs to stop. I am a secrete binge eater and the last couple of years this has got much worse.

I love the 5:2 diet and it works great for me but I am not consistent, I lost a stone and then got complacent and have put the weight backon recently.

I am quite active but need to get back to more focussed exercise like swimming. I have joint hypermobilty syndrome type 3 and so my weight is a big factor in my joint oain, I'm hoping that if I can get my weight down the whole of my body will be happier and my mind will be happier too.

Hi i'm a bit heavier than you but quite similar - not consistent, binge eater, lost and put it on, reasonably active. I too am starting a fresh :) i decided i needed one thing at a time so this week i'm going to go to the gym 3 times. Have you thought about a small goal which might help? Sam x

Nice to hear from other's in the same boat! This week is my week to start swimming again :) When I lost that stone I was swimming 3-4 times a week and completing the 'channel swim' challenge- 22miles in 12 weeks. I have barely swum since. Can't wait to get back in the pool!

It's good to look at it one thing at a time. With it being easter holidays at the moment the food side of it is going to be a battle so I'm not being too strict in that area at the moment.

Hello nicnacaustin and welcome to the weight loss forum 😊 You have taken the first most important step. 😊

Finding a way of eating that suits you is a vital component to a healthy lifestyle, and many people have success with the 5:2 diet. The problem with any 'diet' is sticking with it permanently. I prefer to call it a 'healthy eating plan' and have accepted that I will need to eat like this for life.

Here are a few suggestions for getting the most out of the forum. (Please note some of these suggestions are not available if you are using the HU App so I suggest you use the full website.)

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Best wishes

Anna

Body and Mind, exactly why I am starting the plan and to use this board. I am also very similar in the yo-yo weight gain/loss. My pain is most definitely worse now I am bigger and I would like to lose 2st as soon as is healthily possible.

I know when confidence is low, it often doesn't matter what others say about appearance, but can I just add that you look very healthy in your picture - especially your hair, its great!!

Thank you kindly, that was taken about a year ago-but then I haven't changed much since I was about 10.

I'm also aiming for a 2 st loss and hopefully once I've done that I will be happy enough to get down to my ideal weight. My first goal is definitely 2 st.
