Hi, welcome! You have come to the right place for support, we are a friendly bunch.

I know losing weight seems like a big challenge. You could set yourself mini goals like half a stone. We get badges on here when we lose weight. They go next to our name and most find it a real motivator.

Good luck!

Hello @caveman65 and welcome to the weight loss forum 😊 You have a great incentive with your wife and family 😊 But you are right that losing weight is easier said than done, but this forum can be a great help with that.

Here are a few suggestions for getting the most out of the forum. (Please note some of these suggestions are not available if you are using the HU App so I suggest you use the full website.)

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Best wishes

Anna

Hi and welcome👍 lots of good advice given already all I can say is this is the only way I have lost weight for a long period of time and yes still working on it lol.

Be active on the forum, just shout out for advice or if you get despondent we are all here to help each other.😊

Get your wife and kids on board to help you, I have tried so many new foods that I never even knew existed before coming on here. A new healthy diet won't do anyone any harm and maybe your family may join you in some form of exercise even if it's just a daily walk and builld up on that.

Good luck, choose a weigh in day and well done on making a brave step to change your life and It will add for the better.🐣

Best wishes Bev

Hi and welcome! Lots of advice from others already - the only thing I would say is Try and enjoy the journey. Losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise, they say, though for me the exercise is much more fun and whilst exercising I don't eat - and may even drink a lot of water which means I am not hungry immediately afterwards. Similarly with all the different diets - basically pick one you enjoy unless you have medical reasons to avoid any food types. So, here's to a new you (and me) in 12 weeks time and more renewals thereafter.

Very best of luck!

Doris

PS How old are your kids?
