Hi All,

My first day on the programme. I didn’t manage to get any exercise today and ate a lot better than on most days but when I totalled the calories up it was roughly 1639 for the day instead of my target 1350!! So feeling like a failure already!

Over the years I have put on weight at need to loose a minimum of 10kgs! Seems next to impossible to me right now, but I know so many people have done it.

Think I just need some encouragement and more confidence in myself to really do it this time.

Thanks for reading!

Hi and welcome, fit-FOR-40 :)

Why do you have a target of 1350? That seems to low to me. Put your details into the NHS BMI calculator and see what calorie range it advises.

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Thank you for your advise and tips, it’s really very encouraging. Will follow it up.

Hi, Sorry to bother you but I checked the BMI calculator as suggested by you and it recommends my calorie intake to be between 1345 to 1750 and that I should aim at the lower end to loose 1to 2 pounds a week. Does that mean that I will still loose weight if I consume calories more in the region of 1500-1600? It’s all a bit confusing as have never calorie counted before!

thanks so much for your help.

I always advise eating as much as you can, while still losing weight, especially at the beginning of your journey, when it's the easiest to lose.

It's a bit of a balancing act, to start with, until you find the right level, but start with 1600 and see how you go on.

This isn't a race, so don't be in a hurry to cross the finishing line, find a way that's going to be sustainable for you and enjoy your journey :)

All the best! :)

Thank you.

Hi well done for making the big step that you want to change! Please don't see it as something to fail at - make small changes towards the healthier you and you are more likely to achieve long term sustainable change. Having tried to do too much too soon in the past I feel that this has been the biggest difference for me. Good luck - I'm 51 weeks from beginning this change and average 1lb week loss ( which initially I was frustrated with) but that's almost 4 stone now. Gradually added new exercise challenges. X

Thank you for your kind words. And very encouraging to hear your story. It gives me the confidence to carry on! x

Hi and welcome onboard :)

Eventually we learn that that weight loss is about one key thing. Planning. If you fail to plan you are planning to fail.

A phone app like Myfitnesspal (very popular here) which is free and VERY easy to use allows you to track through the day and find out well before the end of the day if you need to ease up.

Most days I sit down first thing and pan the day for eating so I know at the start where I will end up. It becomes a powerful tool for saying no to that chocolate bar instead of yes if you know you only have 50 spare calories for snacks.

Good luck and keep posting! You will get plenty of support here :D

Thank you, Downloaded the app and you are right it helps to know in advance what your meal plan is. I normally cook everything from scratch but am a working mother of 2 and sometimes get so tired by the end of the day that look for quick fixes! Today was much better as knew before dinner how many calories I had left to consume so came in at -65 which is a whole lot better than yesterday! so feeling a bit more positive today :)

Thats awesome well done ! :)

Well done.. your being cheered on your journey.. 1639 the first time turned out just 39 over.. Planning ahead works and gives you the expectation of what can be had and enjoyed.

Enjoy your journey 🎉🎉🎉
