So the result of my first day...

HopefulPostpartum profile image

So, what can I say about day one. Well, for starters I did not realise how calorific everyhting is. And now I understand why I've only been gaining weight (That and I am so inactive nowadays). So the 1400 calorie limit went out of the window, hit 1552.4. It is so hard to avoid these urges and it's only day one; I caved and ate some brownie and thats what sent my calorie limit up. Oh what a day. But I suppose I can be glad about the fact that I had a fourty minute walk today (to the doctors and back aha) and then went up and down the stairs a lot in an effort to clean the house. More hope for tomorrow! But I need to go food shopping soon and then I can start buying the stuff that will fill me up more and allow me to not be as ravenous! Wish me luck!!! x

When I started out I made sure to drink lots of water ... Even now I make sure I have a drink before I eat anything - it's really easy to confuse hunger and thirst! My other top tip is to drink peppermint tea to stave off the munchies because it makes everything else taste revolting 😉

I will make sure to do both! Going to start now with the peppermint tea, so glad I have loads in the cupboard :)

Your first day has gone well, little changes are a lot easier so don't worry about the brownie, the fact you've counted the calories is a good start,

I'm sure your walk will become a regular thing (not to the doctors though) 😂 you can do this, good luck xx

I suppose it is better to build up to where I need to be rather than to just dive in and expect to be perfect. And yes, as the wetehr gets better, I hope to be out of the house a lot more. Thank you :) xx

You survived, HP and that's the main thing :)

Are you sure that the generic amount of 1400 calories is right for you? Put your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to make sure you get an amount that's right for you :)

Keep up the great work, that's one day that you can tick off :)

I checked the bmi calculator and apparently my calorie intake shoule be between 1468-1887. So as long as I stay inbetween those numbers thats fine?

Yes! Now I just need to print the 12 week plan sheet off from the nhs website and I can start filling it out, but until then, all of the info will go down in my food diary.

It just goes to show that the 1552 calories that you ate today, was absolutely perfect, even with that chocolate brownie! :)

Well done on your first day, now you know you can do it. Writing down your food and calories will help you to know what to and what not to eat. Not only did you calorie count but you walked and cleaned as well. You can do it:)

Have you thought about totalling a week's calories and spreading them over the week. That way if you go over your calories one day, due to a celebration or something you can compensate for it on other days. Saves guilty feelings on the excess days. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

It sounds like you did really well for Day 1, and far better than you thought you'd done. So often that's what defeats us, this desire to be somehow "perfect" and to feel a failure if we're not - but when you look at your first day, if you were to keep that up you'd be well on the road to where you want to be in no time at all! Good luck, you're clearly starting to understand what you need to do and how to make it work for you, and that's the very best way to do it!
