Hi everyone! I'm new here. I am struggling with binge eating and obesity, so I took the step to join this community and hope I get somewhere finally with bettering my relationship with food and learning to love my body.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hi, I only joined a couple of days ago myself. I struggle with binge, boredom, stress eating and have a bad relationship with food and feel bad about the way I look. You are not alone and from the couple of days that I have been on here I already feel that I have support which has been missing in my numerous previous attempts at losing weight.

Good luck x

Hi Weygirl - I have similar issues, so I hope I can find the support you have :)

I have little to no self-esteem and go between not eating and then eating a lot, and eating a lot of the wrong things. I have a lot of guilty feelings attached to food and I'd ideally like to get rid of this unhealthy relationship... I know it'll take work and therapy, but I'm starting with the 12 week NHS thingy...

Thanks.

Try not to be too hard on yourself - I am trying really hard to say positive things about myself rather than all the negative ones that I have been for years. It will take time to change but I am determined to do it and so can you. xx

Thank you, that's very kind of you. I need to try to not be so negative as well, thank you for the reminder :) xx

Hi Kim58 ! Thanks for the tip, I will try to keep my thoughts on here and keep up with the 12 week plan, hoping it will kickstart me into a lifestyle change for healthier eating and moving more.

Hi and welcome, starsandshards :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hello starsandshards , welcome to the best forum you could have chosen to join:)

You have already had some lovely welcomes from Folliegirl and Weygirl and Kim58 . Folliegirl is right you have taken the hardest step by posting on here. Nobody will judge you in any away and you will get loads of support as Weygirl has already told you. She has already started changing the negatives to positives and understands it all takes time. How about trying to write a list of positive things about yourself, it doesn't have to have anything to do with your weight, or how your body looks. Nobody should be defined in that way. It is what is inside you that matters and I bet there are lots of positive things you have going for you, you just need to recognise them. Not everybody counts calories on here, (I do, the same as Kim) we all find our own way. I would say though that however you decide to do it, get yourself a notebook and use it as a food journal, write everything down that you eat and if you can be really organised write down the plan for the following day. Some of us find that once we have written it down it is easier to stick to. Joining one of the weigh ins will help you to be accountable and will keep you more focused during the week. Read the information that Moreless has given you, you will learn lots from that. It won't all happen overnight, it does take time. I have been doing it for 8 weeks now and have lost 10lbs. I'm still learning and have to go backwards sometimes to go forward again.

Join in with peoples posts by commenting and add your own posts, especially when you are in need of support, I can guarantee people will come running. If you think your going to binge, get on here and keep your fingers busy and read loads and talk lots. Get stuff out of the house that you know you can't resist and fill your cupboards and fridge with healthy options inside, the more colourful the better. You can do this, but you do have to get your mind in the right place, we can help you do that. Good luck😃

What a lovely reply! Thank you so much for all the support already and your kind words and advice. I am going for the food diary/sheet thing that comes with the NHS 12 week plan, I also have MFP which I haven't used in a while.

Weirdly I feel like I need to start on a Monday as it's a new week?

lucigret profile image

If starting Monday works for you go for it. Take the time between now and then to read and prepare and to shop. You have a plan of action now, well done and very good luck. Tell us how you get on, if it helps to post every day, then do it. If a 'binge' is coming on, get on here and keep your fingers busy! :)

Hi there

I suffer with binge eating and emotional eating.

I read something about craving sugar the more you have. I decided to look at the recommended which is 25g of sugar a day. After watching the amount of sugar I eat and trying to stay under this I can honestly say the cravings aren't half as bad. Yes I have had one binge in the week since I started it but I guess things can't change overnight but instead of beating myself up about it and carrying on eating rubbish I got straight back on it the next day and this is really helping. If you Google sugar addiction or sugar cravings it will tell you all about it being a vicious circle the more you have the more your body cravings. Don't get me wrong it's not been easy but it's been nice living and not constantly thinking about food and what I can have next.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck on your journey xx

I'm not too bad on sugar, it's more savoury and carbs (which I know are sugar anyway...). But yes, I experience this so much, it's horrible. I hate constantly thinking about food and feeling guilty. My boss sits in front of me at work as well and makes comments on what I eat which doesn't help. :( xx

prepare some chopped up fruit and some nuts to replace whatever it is you eat at your desk now and ignore your boss.

Omg that must be the worst thing ever! When you have problems with food wtx anyway and then someone to comment! I couldn't cope I'd have to say something!

All the best anyway we'll crack this one day I'm sure xx

He's a runner and does ultramarathons and stuff, makes me feel quite inadequate as I'm fat and do no exercise at all. At first I was like well screw you, I'm going to eat what I want, and it hasn't made me any happier... I have to do this for myself :p

Thanks for your kind words xx
