Hi all,

After 2 years of excuses, over eating, bad habits, smoking, being lazy, depressed and BORED... I am going to take control of my eating. I need to lose 15kgs ideally. I have lost 5kgs in the past year thanks to exercising once a week (HIIT) and trying the atkins diet for 2 weeks (lost 5kgs during that time... but hated life!) Although the atkins was an AWFUL way to live, it did kick start my weight loss and gave me hope.

My aims:

exercise daily (15-30 mins) ideally once in the morning (light cross trainer session) and once in the evening (butt and abs challenge)

eat 1400 kcal daily and track it using myfitnesspal

lose 1kg per week => target should be achieved in 15 weeks by 5th July.

There! Now that I've publicly declared it, then I should be able to stick to it.

Wish me luck!

Good luck :) that used to be my username! I changed it because I realised it was what I was, not what I wanted to be - although I'm still a long way off ;)

Thank you so much! Well done, I will make that another aim of mine: to change my username when the hat no longer fits :)

Hello chubbymummy and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ You have done well to lose 5kg already, and with your attitude the rest will soon follow ☺

I hope you enjoy the forum, the first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and you have eared a 5kg badge already . If you have any questions or would like the badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Very good! You want to lose 15kg at 1kg per week and that is not that different to me (19kg at 1kg per week, 102kg to 83kg, my height is 1m85). This is my first, and hopefully last, diet and I now have 3kg left to lose. Everything has gone completely smoothly, which surprised me as I am not young (I'm 57). So, for what it's worth, I'll pass on my experiences.

1. I do a lot of exercise. 6 days a week. This makes the daily calorie deficit of 1000 calories (required to lose 1kg per week) much easier, because my job is sedentary. I also run races every few weeks so that I can check that the lost weight translates to better performance.

2. I have not changed my diet at all, except that I eat smaller portions, have cut out snacking and drastically reduced my consumption of alcohol (2-3 glasses per week as an absolute maximum). By not changing my diet I hope that maintaining the lost weight, for the rest of my life, will be easier.

3. I weigh myself every day. Not really necessary but in my case I think it helps. It used to frustrate me that weight can fluctuate on a day to day basis, but now I understand that this is normal. It's the downward trend that matters, over a period of a few days.

Good luck!

Thank you so much Chris! That has helped a lot, especially in terms of exercise. I adore exercising and I know I feel happy after it, however, "finding time" (terrible way of looking at it!) is always difficult... but I will follow suit and try to monitor performance as you said to see how much of a difference it makes to fitness levels.

Good luck shifting your final 3kgs! :)

Thank you for sharing your experience. My job is sedentary too and your tip will surely go a long way for me - need to shed 17kgs.

Hi there, yes being on a motivational group like this will help you so much, your goals are real so you be at target before you know it. After my ex said I looked fat recently I am more determined that ever to loose the extra weight. Good luck x.

do it for yourself! you deserve a healthy body and mind :) but it does help when someone gives u criticism to boost your motivation lol I teach reception, and one of the children said "Miss, why do you have a big belly?" hahaha i think he was waiting for me to say that I have a baby in it, bless him! Instead I told him I had a big lunch.... and although his intentions were completely innocent, it still irritates me that at 32 I have a belly and a muffin top (although both have decreased thanks to fitness training, but theyre still there!). Good luck on your journey Anita44 keep me updated!
