Hello ttbotter and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ Have a good look around the site, especially at the recipe section for some tasty meal ideas ☺ often weight loss is as much about portion size as food type.

But first take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺ Please join us today over on the Feelgood Friday weigh-in here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Welcome to the site! You're off to a good start getting fruit and veg in :)

Your post brings a few thoughts to my mind.

Firstly, a lot of unhealthy food from restaurants and supermarkets contains loads of added salt which can make that food tasty but deadens the tastebuds so food without as much salt tastes bland. The good news is that this can change within a few weeks, so it's worth sticking with healthy food for a bit and noticing how your taste changes.

Secondly, maybe think about the types of food you currently find tasty and what gives them their flavours. Most regional food for example uses very distinctive herbs and spices for flavouring that you can continue to use in healthy food.

Finally, be adventurous with salads, they are so versatile. My lunch today for example was brown rice, chickpeas, kidney beans, sweet corn, peppers, chillis, tomatos, red onion and mushrooms, with balsamic vinegar dressing - and it was delicous :)

Good luck with your journey!

Welcome ttbotter this I'd definitely the place to be for all kinds of help, advice and support.

Make your weight loss journey an adventure with your food. Try different ingredients, tastes and textures. Try roasting a red pepper to add to your salad, it really changes the flavour, as does roasting garlic. Roasted veg are great, minimal oil and a couple of sprigs of rosemary thrown in, get some squash and sweet potatoes in there as well.

You really need to maximise the flavour fir the good to be exciting, remember nothing is ruled out it is for you to decide what you ear in order to get your weight moving in the right direction. So a little strong flavoured cheese (Parmesan/Stilton) goes a long way, a good balsamic vinegar is also excellent at adding flavour. Definitely ring the changes and keep notes of what you enjoyed. If you didn't like it what could you do to improve it.

The main thing is to make this a sustainable, enjoyable journey, it isn't a torture to be endured. I have one simple rule, if it isn't good for me it doesn't go in my mouth! Find out about nutrients and which foods are nutrient dense. Above all enjoy your splendid adventure.

Hello ttbotter rubbish food is often high In Salt and /or sugar which tends to mask natural flavours (wonder how bad the junk food would taste without it!) and as the others have said healthier foods may taste a bit bland at first but your taste buds will adjust and you'll start to notice and enjoy the more subtle natural flavours. Calories in Herbs and spices are negligible and think of interesting textures too, e.g. Something crunchy and juicy with something creamy and smooth.
