Snacking!! I'm new here

Hi everyone,

I'm new here but would really like some advice on how to control snacking! I've got quite a lot of weight to lose and snacking on chocolate, sweets etc is my major downfall.

Apart from the obvious of not buying it, is there any other alternatives?

Hi and welcome, Beth :)

If I was you, I'd go for the obvious :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Peppermint tea! It makes everything else taste revolting 😉

How often do you drink it? Thanks for the suggestion!

I drink it in the evenings so that I don't snack! During the day I drink water when I first feel hungry, it's really easy to confuse hunger and thirst.

If your not strong willed don't have it in the house. If you really need it, build it into your eating plan once a week. Find some alternatives. Almonds are really good for snacking on, vegetable sticks with hummus (i know....it's not chocolate), sliced fresh pineapple. Options hot chocolate 40 cals for a mug full, rice cakes, I find the savoury ones are more satisfying. Go on an adventure and discover some lovely alternatives. It doesn't mean you can't have chocolate and sweets ever again, just have them now and again and make sure you only buy small bars/packets. If you can't stop once you start, then avoid them. Good luck.

Thanks for your help! I think swapping it for some of the things you've said will actually be a nice change.

you'll be surprised how quickly your taste will change. I think a lot of what we think we 'need' is just habit, that's not to say I don't occasionally have some form of chocolate. I have much better control now a days, just give it time.

I look up the calorie content for everything. Plan out my day the night before. Sometimes it goes to plan and sometimes it goes unbelievably wrong.

I even plan in a couple biscuits (7😇) every now and again as I dont want to get bored. I find it keeps me on my toes and makes me work harder to burn them off.

I am just starting my 2nd week god knows what I will be like by week 12 😂😂

I wish you good luck on your journey and as someone put earlier better to not have temptation in the house.

I too have lots to lose and it can feel never ending. I have given up chocolate for lent so am being strict and not had any choc or choc products for 2 weeks so far (only 4 weeks to go). But what I have found is that fruit and other healthy foods taste amazing. I really wanted something sweet the other night so had strawberries topped with yogurt and a teaspoon of Rice Krispies. It was lovely and really hit the spot. Finding alternatives can be fun, enjoy the change.
