Found my motivation?

I posted on the Saturday weigh-in yesterday that I was motivated to eat healthily and be active but was struggling to find motivation to reduce calories enough to actually lose some weight.

I've got a week off work, and decided I would go swimming on mon or tues as I haven't been for a while. Checked my costume and it had faded to the point of being nearly see-through, so off I went yesterday to buy a new one.

Well the sight of me in my underwear in harsh lighting in the changing room with triple mirrors showing my flab from every conceivable angle was a painful reminder of why I need to shift some weight !!

I did buy a nice costume with a little skirt which covers the tops of my legs! ( I remember having one like that when I was about 5 years old) so bring on the swimming this week and hopefully this will be the motivation that I need πŸ‘™

It's a great idea to buy a new costume! Hope you enjoy your swimming, I go fast and slow when I am there like interval training or HITT. The lifeguard told me it works well for weight loss, better than maintaining steady pace. Enjoy! πŸŠπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

Thanks Ella, I think it might take a couple of sessions to tone up my arms and get breathing rhythm going as it's been a while, but that's a great idea to alternate fast and slow as it can get a bit boring going up and down πŸ˜€

Hi Fran182716, hope you enjoy your swim, I will be swimming on Monday morning, it's good exercise and kind to our joints. The motivation will come.

Hi Pamton, yes I'm really looking forward to it wish I was going today but it's family session in between the clubs and I don't want to have to keep stopping and starting round the kids. Weekdays have an early bird adult session or there's two evening ones as well πŸ˜€

I have found at my pool that the adult sessions are very busy. The general family Ines are usually better, particularly if you arrive right at the start

From previous experience the Sunday family session is jam packed with little kids, it's when I used to take mine when they were small, but there's been an overhaul of the timetable and big re-furb since I last went about a year ago (hope they've improved the showers!) so it could all have changed πŸ˜€

I asked the lifeguard for when the quieter times were that fitted in with my day, they were helpful. I agree about showers tho - council pools aren't great but cheaper unless you are going very regularly.

I just checked out the online timetable and they have an hour general swim at 3.30 pm today after the "splash" session so I'll be off to that later! Thanks for the prompt Ella πŸ˜€πŸ‘

well done for getting swimming and a new costume.. i love swimming and i also jog up and down the pool as well to mix it up a bit.. and as EllaMidlands says do a couple of fast then slow lengths to get your heart rate up rather than just swimming breastroke for 1/2hr constantly... you will see a big difference to your fitness and wont have to swim as long to get the same benefit xx

Hi Claz, yes I am looking forward to it and the jogging sounds a good idea I presume its resistance from the water that helps with the fitness. I used to go to an aqua tone class but it's at a time that I usually work now, I may look out for a different one πŸ˜€

Swimming is a great form of exercise. Works so many muscles without putting too much pressure on your body. Its a great way to start. Enjoy xx

Thanks Mustgetthin, I had to stop ice skating and can't walk as far as I used to 5 miles is about my limit due to arthritis in the feet. I used to swim a lot, looking forward to getting back to it πŸ˜€

I have early onset Arthritis in both feet and left knee. Im gonna do as much as I can while I can. I love running and plan on doig it until I cant... then find something else to replace it. I had to give up dancing so understand where your coming from. Twisting my knee would mean I struggled to walk for the rest of the week x

What a shame for you, you look young in your photo I'm In my 50s so some arthritis expected. Are you able to do some running on softer surfaces to protect your joints a little ? X

Im 36. Like to think I look younger in my pic though. I prefer trail running as its not as hard on the joints and even though its uneaven it keeps the muscles strong. I only really wear trainers these days. Shoes are special occasions only as my feet swell if I walk around in them. I do still get bad days but not as bad as when I didnt know what was wrong. I learnt to run more gently and avoid curbs and steps as this can kick my knee off. Its managable for the most part. I also dont take painkillers as if I can feel the pain I know when to quit x

Well I'm back from the pool and really enjoyed myself! Did 16 lengths which is half what I used to do regularly but not bad for first time in a year. Legs would have been up for more as they are quite strong from walking, but arms got very tired, they need some building up!

I'm planning to go back on tues or weds when my muscles have recovered and really looking forward to it.

Thank you all for your encouragement today, you are stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
