I did the calculator and it says that I should eat between 1883 and 2421 kcals a day. I am female, 5ft 11 inches and active. I don't intend to eat 2000+ kcals but do so stick to 1440 as stated in plan or have 1883?

Thanks

Hi for your height I would think 1,400 is too low. The average calories needed for women is around 2,000 and for men 2,500. So if you want to lose weight you need less than that. But don't forget that's for the average person and your height, specially being active, means you would need more.

The point about an eating plan is not just to cut calories but to ensure you are eating enough to stop your body going into starvation mode. If it does then your body will hold onto fat and thus lower your metabolism which makes it even harder to lose weight. It's a vicious circle and very common in yo-yo dieting. I would therefore go with 1883. At least try this first and if you don't lose weight try a bit less. But not as low as 1,400.

Thanks, it's true that if you don't eat enough that if counterproductive and frankly miserable. I just wasn't sure how low to go.

Much appreciated

I would start put eating the highest amount you can and still lose weight. I agree with lilac lil as it's really important to make permanent change ☺

Best wishes

I'm only 5"1' and have been losing slowly on 1400 ☺ I couldn't believe it at first as all previous 'diets' have been around 1000 calories ☺
