First day of doing this diet. Haven't done a calorie controlled diet for years, but need to try something new. I've got well over 6 stone to lose so I've got a long road ahead of me. I kicked off the day with Banana pancakes which was surprising nice, chicken salad for my lunch and still trying to decided what to do for dinner tonight. alcohol is off limits until a little treat on the weekend. Also decided to cut back on my coffee intake.

Hello I-like-crisps and welcome to the forum. I have around 5 stone to loose. I am following the NHS 12 week plan. First thing you need to do is check your BMI in the NHS BMI calculator and make sure you are consuming enough calories, don't be tempted to stick to 1,400. You are here for the long haul and slow and steady is the way to go, however frustrating it may seem! I find it useful to write down everything I eat and to cook from scratch. Make sure you have some suitable snacks. I like dried mango, almonds and occasionally rice cakes, chilli ones are the best. Strong flavours and spicy food seem to satisfy me more than others. Lots of people follow lots of other eating plans, its a case of finding what works for you. Good luck, keep posting, we are a friendly lot:)

Hello I-like-crisps and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. I also don't like to use the word 'diet' as that to me means a temporary way of eating. Instead, I have set my mind to follow this eating plan for life ☺ Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

You might find it easier to set yourself small goals rather than looking at the big picture. I started at 15 11 1\2 and my first goal was to get my half stone badge, my next goal is to get to 15 stone, then it will be to get my stone badge, then probably my next half stone etc. etc. Also start writing a, list of non-food rewards, maybe a lipstick, some nice smellies, a manicure, a new top. I also put £1 for every pound I loose in a pot to spend on something I want further down the line. There is a lot to read and it will take time to understand it all. I'm on my 8th week and am still changing things around. Just ask if you need help.

HI I-like-crisps, good luck with weight reduction. I cut down on refined sugar in Feb which I found very beneficial to my mood and energy levels, I am continuing with this and have reduced caffeine this month.

Thanks everyone. I've never thought to reward myself with a non food treat, this something I will most defiantly be doing with every half a stone I lose. That's a great tip cheers :) I only had three cups of coffee yesterday going to keep this going and hopefully next week will cut the sugar out. Hoping I will sleep better after the caffeine levels have dropped in my blood lol.

My down fall is crisps too, I could resist using it as part of my profile name, this will be the biggest challenge for me. Well done farmhouse88 going with out for 3 weeks WoW!

Have a great week everyone and thanks for all your help and tips xx
