My Secret Diary! ( will I succeed ?)

1st day 1st week โค

I've tried every diet there is but now I'm going to try back to basics "calorie counting"

Every birthday ( including the special ones, 30, 40, 50 and 60) I was going to be slim and gorgeous!! It didn't happen! Now I'm coming up to my 65 birthday and I'm still talking about it! Now I'm going to try and stop talking to my friends about it ( oh I lost 2lbs this week and oh I've put 1 lb back on!) they are very polite and have never said, we've heard this all before. So I'm lucky I have good mates.

This is a secret for me. My secret diary. I will try and stay focused with the food but also want to try and include exercise! I played netball for 32 years and gave up at 55. I miss it so I will try " Couch to 5K" wish me luck! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  • Hi Gemini, I have similar history, re weight loss, I'm 68. As from today measuring all calories and drinking 4 litres of fluid whilst awake, Ive been yo yo yoing over the past few weeks. Good luck to start of 12 week plan:) G

  • Hi Gem, I'm getting there too, and I try to keep track of my drinking, because I believe when we have a lot of weight to lose or overeat, it helps to have more fluid on board to dilute everything, makes sense for our organs, say liver, and they do recommend 4 to 6 pints of fluid a day, hard work sometimes, but there are worse things!!take care, :)G

    Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for โ˜บ

    Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate โ˜บ

    The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page โ˜บ I've posted the link at the end of the reply to help you

  • You sound just like me. I also have stopped telling people, as you get to notice their knowing looks, as the weight sneeks back on. I have also got myself a planner to record my calories, and note my exercise. Doing c25k, and now about to start week 4. The way I'm doing this, is I am on a mission, it's a new hobby, my spare time is focused on my new hobby. Like you we deserve this, and we will do this. Enjoy the feeling of being in control of your future health. Enjoy your personal challenge x

  • C25K, go steady, you can do this! When you do your first session, I promise you will feel great. Just listen and take your time.

  • Day 1 under my belt! You were right! I tried this 2 years ago and had to stop twice and use my inhaler!! Lol

    No inhaler this time! Yay!

  • Steph246 i also treat the forum and weight loss as a hobby /adventure. Trying out new recipes, reading about different nutrients and the impact on the body, joining in the conversations and posts on the forum, and some of the challenges . It is a great way of doing it for me. I lose weight incredibly slowly and the forum had kept me focused and positive.

  • A lot of us will agree with what your saying. For my 50 th I lost a lot of weight and it helped me all around feel fitter and gain confidence. I did this through a slimming world club which was great when I went and started losing people started noticing, lots of new clothes, I didnt need to share every 1lb loss it was noticible, then a 1lb would go on and I remembered all that clapping like a echo and oh my goodness with stress amd life another 1lb - It then became a failure almost a bereavemant of a lifestyle I had tasted and enjoyed and one of the domestics on our ward at work bluntly said ' Oh you looked so good when you lost your weight ' (( so am I ugly now !!!!! )) she wasn't being horrible probably truthful because when you are losing you do talk about it more, but putting on you almost go into self destruct. I also have a lot of good friends who kept quiet but you know and you can't quieten that little voice in your head so easily.

    The difference now is that I've not rejoined a club, I have instead concentrated on the mindset of becoming a healthier person putting healthy food in and exercising and its helped.

    The point I am saying is using this online forum is really helping me because its like a secret diary and ok yes I do contribute on here and since some of you have got to know me and my life through challenges, Yet nobody can actually see the real me unless I chose to disclose. I also keep a journal and a food diary and this helps but I think technology is here to stay โ˜บ

  • Well done, I can tell you are just loving doing this! Such a great investment, in your health. So have you planned your food for today? I find planning my dinners in advance really helps. Also, when are you running again?

  • You're not alone. I wish I had a quid for every diet I'd tried, I'd be mega rich. I was really confused last week, should I eat carbs, should I reduce fat, which diet is best. Then on Saturday I thought I know the basics and I'm going back to the basics, so 3 meals a day, smaller portions, only eating when I'm hungry. I am 50 in 18months and even if I only lose 1lb a week, I will be 5 stone lighter. Good luck x

    I got confused by the calorie thing and because I'm a carer I do walk quiet a bit, so thinking my fit but was saying I had used an amount of extra calories I ate them!! But I've just seen tigger' conversation I realise I cant ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

    The Runing is a bit more disjointed only 2 last week but I'm trying to get in 3 this week.

  • Well done! That is such great news! I managed to loose 2lb, but have avoided running, old back problem. Still managed to get some walking done, Evey little helps. Just keep moving, and counting the cals and remember, you deserve this special time!
