Hello, this is my first post but I joined a few weeks ago and have been following posts with interest and have already gained lots of useful info and advice re recipes, exercise etc. I am 69 years old and have generally been healthy and fit for most of my life. In the past I have been able to fix weight gains with a 'quick fix' which of course is not sustainable. After Xmas I weighed myself to find at 10st 9lb I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life (even at 9 months pregnant!). At 5' 4" this put in in the overweight category. The BMI checker said I needed to lose 1st 13lbs to put me in the middle of the healthy weight range so I felt I needed to make some sustainable changes to my diet and lifestyle. So far in 7 weeks I have lost 7 lbs. I am happy with 1lb a week as I want this to be a change I can live with forever. I have reduced portion sizes, virtually cut out alcohol, don't buy crisps or sweet treats and processed food (apart from bacon) and cook mostly from scratch. I have increased my exercise and go for a power walk on most days, sometimes go for a swim. So far this regime is working, however, if it stalls I will perhaps look at a more prescriptive regime (although I don't really like to be 'told' what to do). I am sure this site will help with motivation on days when it seems too much. It is helping so far so keep up the good work. I will keep you posted as to my progress. EJ

Morning NannyEJ

Welcome to the weight loss forum. Well done with losing 7lbs already, your doing great. We award weight loss badges here so if you would like a 7lb badge just ask any of the admin team.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side of the screen or if your on a mobile at the bottom. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start along with a photo so you can see the changes when the scales don't move.

We have weigh-ins every day so why not come and join us. You can find the weigh-in on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post and state your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the best out of the forum be active, share experiences, tips and recipes. Read some of the posts they can be very inspiring and motivate you along the way.

Have a great first week.

There you go NannyEJ your well earned 7lb badge, well done.

The next badges go up in stones, so when you reach 1 stone ask any of the admin team (myself, moreless, Anna61 and isou7000) to replace your badge with a new one.
