Comfort eater!

Hi, I have just discovered this site and think it will be very helpful on my weight loss journey. I have approx 5 stone to lose, have been overweight for many years now which resulted in me suffering from depression. I have no get up and go at the moment, I go to work during the week because I have to but spend weekends in the house due to not feeling comfortable and confident. I get very out of breath, sore knees and ankles and no nice clothes which fit!! Looking for some tips and motivation from fellow members please. x

Hi and welcome, Finnstar :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

PS You have your newbie badge :)

Good luck on your journey, I hope you smash all your goals! ;) :D

Thanks Sazkia, how are you getting on? When did you join?

in reply to Finnstar

I have lost over 4 stone since joining so I'm quite pleased. I do have days when I get fed up, like everyone does I am sure, but this place helps. :)

I have been here since July 2016.

Wow, well done you. 4 stone is amazing, you must feel so much better for losing it. So is that 4 stone since July 2016? How did you manage it? Any tips because I have approx 5 stone to lose?

in reply to Finnstar

Yes, since July 2016. I managed it like lots of others did before me; by making healthier food choices, smaller portions and exercise! Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? That should help you if you follow it but do check for your own calorie allowance via the NHS BMI calculator! :)

Hello Finnstar!

🎉 Welcome to the forum! 🎉

I'm a fellow comfort eater too! (Pretty sure any emotion has been an excuse for me to eat!)

Congrats on taking the first step in your weigh loss journey! Hope you have a fab week!

😄

Thanks BeanZ90, yeah I say comfort but like you any emotion these days does it. Ha Ha It used to be when I was feeling low or upset but now I seem to be having a treat when I happy (not often that happens these days). Do you mind me asking how much you have lost and what your goal is?

I've just noticed you are getting married, congratulations!! What an exciting time for you. When is the big day?

in reply to Finnstar

On my journey so far I lost 13lb (back in September) then put most of it back on during Christmas! My goal is to lose 3st!

Thank you 😄 no date set yet, as I'm working towards a new qualification in teaching! So want to get that sorted first!

I can definitely relate to your comment about lack of get up and go! But trust me once you start doing little things for yourself your mood picks up, you start to feel better about yourself and it makes doing more small things much easier! I have only been doing this a week and already feel my mindset is improving!

Hi Echall, thanks for replying. It's like a vicious circle isn't it? I don't want to go out because none of my clothes fit so I stay in and end up binge eating! Do you mind me asking how much you are wanting to lose? Did you have a good first week?

Exactly that! I get so cheesed off that I can't buy nice clothes too. And the ones I do own never feel like they look right. Officially the BMI calculator says I've to lose 45kg to get into "normal" BMI. I'm currently 17.5st. I'm aiming to lose 10kg in this 12 weeks and then start with another 12 weeks following. I don't really have an ideal weight per se but just want to feel happy and be able to buy nice things :)

First week has been not too bad actually! I wasn't eating proper lunches so that's the first change I have made :) small manageable changes are the key I think :)

Are you following the 12 week challenge plan on here? I can't find it! Ha Ha..great start eh!! I say I want to lose 5 stone but when I go to check my BMI it will no doubt say I should lose more than that. I'm small so it tends to look worse! How often do you weigh yourself?

The 12 week guide is here: nhs.uk/LiveWell/weight-loss...

It gives hints and tips on how to make changes and also there's weekly sheets to fill in to help stay on track! :)

Yeah although BMI is one measure, muscle does weigh more than fat so by its standards most rugby players would be obese LOL.

Ahh see I have the good fortune of being tall! I am trying not to weigh myself too much because I think you tend to become obsessed with the number which leads to frustration when it isn't moving!

The weekly sheets from the NHS guide asks you for a weight and waist measurement at the beginning on the week and then at the end so I'm just planning to stick to that :)
