I'm new here - no more going off the rails- time to gain control!

Hi, I'm a 40 year old mum of 2 kids! This year I have embarked on a teacher training course!! With all the stress/pressures of the course, I have become and expert at comfort eating it all away!! Although - the stress still remains. So it has got to the point where I can no longer fit in my clothes (comfortably) - things have to change. Looking forward to gaining some control back, becoming fit and healthy once more!

Welcome to the weight loss forum and good luck with your teacher training course.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbies post in the Pinned post section on the right or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start along with a photo so you can see the changes and it is motivating on the days when the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh-ins so why not come and join us. You will find the weigh-ins in the Events section on the Home page on the right. Just click on the post and state your starting weight, any loss/gain or maintain.

To get the best from the forum be active, share experience, tips and ideas. read some of the posts they are very inspiring.

Hi ronjo, good luck with the training and indeed the weight loss plan. One thing that has worked for me is, when the stress levels start to rise, head for the door and go for a walk. It's a win win situation; burns off calories and takes me away from eating opportunities. Of course you do have to be careful not to eat twice as much when you arrive back home but I usually plan what I'll eat when I get back and have it ready before going out. x

Hi Ronjo- yeah, teacher training is utterly miserable isn't it! I put on loads of weight while I was doing my PGCE and never lost it again. It's a job which never stops but you have to try and make time for yourself. You'll never plan the perfect lesson or mark the work to the level you'd like to, but you have to make sure you give yourself an end time for all the extra work and stick to it. Which is easier said than done!

The holidays are also a great time to get into really good habits, but then it's just about keeping them going when term starts again. Don't do what I do and keep putting off being healthy until the hols! It's really easy to fall into a habit of get home / make quick tea / do endless marking and planning / drink all the wine / collapse - but you'll be a better teacher if you keep yourself first so you've got the energy to do the job in the daytime!

Well done having a career change at 40. Not easy with a young family. I did my PGCE 20 years ago and I had only number one to worry about back then.

Plan your meals like your lessons, in advance. Snack healthily with nuts and seeds and drink loads of water. If you can "reward" yourself with a brisk walk after you have finished your planning/marking a couple of evenings per week it will help your weight loss and mental wellbeing also.

Remember that you are learning a new career. Grow and learn from the mistakes and it will help you to develop into a leading professional.
