14 stone and feeling down

I'm weighing 14 stone at the moment which is my largest. I was just going through my wardrobe and tried on a skirt that was a bit big on me a year ago, and it is so so small now I can't even join the button up. I have been feeling really insecure about my weight lately and don't even want to socialise because I'm embarrassed and feel so frumpy. I don't know how I've let it get to this point. I enjoy exercise and know how to eat well, but I also binge eat...Sorry to come on moaning...it's good to off load..and I feel a bit embarrassed talking to my friends as they are all smaller than me x

  • Hi and welcome, Leeflower :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

  • Step one is done. Admit it and tell people. Now follow all the advice from Moreless. If you know what you should weigh it is going to be another shock. But small goals will be the best to get you there. It will take a long time to do it right. Remember that you can do this and you've already started. Good luck and I hope I'll see some posts from you on our forum.

  • Hi Leeflower and welcome.

Please don't be so down on yourself. You have to remember that regardless of your size you are still the lovely person that you've always been.

You're already ticking most of the correct boxes. You're exercising and eating well. You've already recognised where improvement could be made which is a great step in the right direction.

Later one of the admins will post plenty of useful information which is well worth taking the time to go through and assimilate. One of those gems is the NHS 12 week plan which many people here including myself would highly recommend.

Congratulations with finding the courage to post. As for your friends, I'm guessing, but I suspect you'll find them supportive with your current journey. Odd friends if they're not :)

    Good luck!

  • Too early in the morning. Skip the bit about "admins posting useful information".

  • Hi leeflower. I felt the same. I went to the Dr for my pill renewal and they told me I was 15 stone 2lbs. I about collapsed, it's the largest iv ever been. Instead of seeing it negative, I felt sorry for myself for about 2 days then thought hey im the only person that can change this. Iv been open to people about going gym and changing my eating, no matter who said what. I have replaced chocolate and crisps in my house with healthy options and keep myself busy so I don't get bored. I got a bike and now cycle to thw shops instead of drive. Iv lost a stone now but it's taken about 5/6 weeks. Make yourself a good support network. Iv ranted on here before, we are all in the same boat and are here to listen and support. It will feel great fitting in that skirt again and then you can say that you did that x

  • You can do it! Start off with some small changes and just see where you go. There is a mountain of advice on here. Do you have anyou idea how you'd like to change your eating pattern? Someone here will have done the same whether it's calories, low carb, fasting or whatever. Let us know and you'll get good advice.

  • Try not to be embarrassed about your weight Leeflower. You have made the first step by coming to this forum. Your first mini goal can be to get back into that skirt, it doesn't sound as though you would have to loose too much to get the button done up! I find it easier to set small goals. I started my journey here 5 weeks ago at 15 11 1\2 and my first goal was to loose half a stone and then to get to 15 stone, I now have just over 3lbs to go to get to the 15 stone mark. Reward yourself along the way with non food rewards, so a new nail varnish, lipstick, hair cut, what ever works for you. Your first reward will be doing that skirt up. You know how to do it, just take some time to make a plan of action and declutter the house of things you don't want and get some healthy snacks in. You can do it. Keep posting, you'll get lots of support here:)

  • First thing I am sure you are very beautiful person, the more you are down the more you are going to eat "I am sure you know this already"

I am sorry you feel the way You di I am sending you a big virtual hug it will be ok

  • I feel your pain, nothing in my wardrobe fits me at the moment which makes life difficult at times, but, keep going and I am sure you will get the results your hoping for x

  • Know exactly how you feel, I asked my other half for lypo the other day lol. No use beating yourself up though.

Best to be on the diet thing long term. I call it the diet thing because I'm not following a diet just eating healthy and exercising more.

Decided to do it long term then the goal posts don't hurt so much if you bump into them. Little steps are an achievement and a celebration.

My mind set is on being healthy. That's my motivation so I don't give up. I need to lose 3 stone plus a bit.

Yep still had that piece of cheesecake yesterday, by why not I've eaten lots of salads too. So a treat is a reward for good work.

As for clothes, I've boxed all of the small one's. They might come out again or I might get a whole new wardrobe. Something to look forward to.

Go classy with what you wear.... I got picks out of Marilyn Monroe and some sexy curvy women.

You'll get there. But the most important thing is to try and stay positive and happy along the way. Don't make weight your focus. Get that red lippy out girl. Big hugs xx

  • Just take one day at a time. Plan your meals and a treat. Don't stop these otherwise you will cheat. You are not the only person with a weigh problem but the forum is here to support .

  • You have just taken the first step.

I know the feeling only too well. What I can't know is how it affects you, however, may I make a suggestion which may work? If you place a large bowl of fruit (not avocados or dates) on the kitchen top and pick at those instead of bad stuff (you'l figure that out for your self) you may begin to see some change. I still don't fully understand all those content stuff on packaging but if it shows more than 1 % fat. get rid.

    Good luck.
