Hi there just joined and not very motivated yet would like to loose at least 2 Stone also very inactive life sitting all day at work then Sitting at night with hubby keeping himcompany

Hi 48Chris , read lots of the posts on the forum and the topics. I don't know what sort of eating plan you are going to follow, there are many and varied. I am doing the NHS 12 week plan, calorie counting. If that the way you are going to go then check your BMI using the NHS BMI calculator to see how many calories you should be eating. Plan your meals, write everything down, include lots of fruit and veg, try and encourage hubby to do some exercise, even if only a walk around the block. There is lots of support on this forum and I'm sure others will message you soon. Any questions just ask. Wishing you good luck.

Thanks unfortunately I will struggle for a while as don't normally eat anything till lunch time yes I know that is bad habit must break ☺will start in have something tomorrow morning before I go to work will have to think of something for lunch as normally have a sandwich oh dear what is it they say no pain no gain 😊 but thank you for replying

You can still have sandwiches for lunch! I have sandwiches most days but have switched to wholemeal bread... So long as you can fit it in your daily calories, nothing is truly off limits!

There really is no need for any pain lol. Maybe you need to give yourself time to read and understand how it all works. It can be confusing. Then plan a few days at a time. Write out a menu plan for a few days making some small changes and see how you go. Don't try and change everything at once. As 2stoneup says you can still have your sandwich for lunch. You can have anything as long as it fits in with your calorie allowance - the more you do it the easier it will get, you will get to know what fills you up and what doesn't and you will make better choices, it will all suddenly fall in to place.

Hi, I'm new to this website as well. I have found one of the most helpful things was to change the way I think about my food choices. Nothing is off limits, I remind myself I am choosing whether to have something or not. If you can buddy up with somebody to do some exercise, its much more fun than going it alone. I have around 3 stone I would like to lose. I have recently started interval core strengthening training with a friend over whatsapp video at a fixed time every other evening. Much more fun!

I have a job that's fairly sedentary. I was given a fitbit for my birthday just over 4 weeks ago and now I walk at least 5 miles every day. I can thoroughly recommend it especially if you join in with the challenges. It's amazing how moving just a bit every hour can add up.

I know it's hard at this time of year but if you've found this forum then you've taken the first step.

I too got a Fitbit for Christmas, it really has made the world of difference to me. To be honest I thought I did enough exercise, but no where near enough, maybe 1 mile walking with the dog. But since a Christmas I have gradually increased my walking from 20 minutes slow walk to 50 minutes fast walking with lots of inclines, lifting my knees higher, I don't tend to trip so much now. I also try and do cardio, found on YouTube walk at home leslie samsone, this gets the heart pumping, worked up to the 3 miles as well. Cut down on portion sizes, now doing altogether 20'000 steps a day. Have lost 7lb, I am not that over weight but every time I got on the scales I had put a bit more on, so knew that I needed to start making some changes. I have a bad back so jogging and running are not really an option, but walking I can manage.

I do use the food log on the Fitbit which shows how many calories I have left in a day. I still have chocolate in the evenings and the odd packet of crisps but every day I am under the calories in vs calories out, so as long as I lose something each week I am happy and don't feel I am on a diet. If I can do it then most other people can.

I'm new too and I am doing calorie counting. I've tried 5:2 and low carbs stuff but its too restrictive and just makes me grumpy. If you count calories then basically if you want a sandwich for lunch you can have one as long as you don't go over the top with dinner.

Yesterday I managed soup (Minestrone with pasta bits) and bread and then had a massive salad with a roasted salmon fillet. My family had the same for dinner but with potatoes and dessert. I use the "My fitness pal" app to record my calories and exercise and it works really well for me as I can see that if I burn 50 calories on a walk it adds that 50 to my food allowance but still keeps me on target.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, but they are quite busy. If you wish to take part Sunday is the quietest day but you are welcome to join any day. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the 'home' page, or at the very bottom (after all the posts) on a mobile.☺
