Newbie - Start Tomorrow!

Going to weight and measure myself tomorrow morning and start my journey! Tried all sorts and thrown money away on memberships to various other diets with no success. Need to change now, my weight keeps creeping up every year!

Does it take long to get used to counting calories?

Hi Zigg and welcome to the forum.

Check out the Welcome Newbies post in the pinned posts section (to the right of your screen on a pc, bottom on a mobile) - this contains some great info for starting out and navigating your way around the site. Then work out your BMI using the NHS BMI calculator nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... and have a look at the 12 week healthy eating plan. Don't forget to sign up for the weekly emails.

Take all of your before measurements and maybe a photo.

We run weigh-ins every day and consider joining some of our challenges as they are fun and motivating.

We also give out weight loss badges and you are welcome to have a Newbie one for the first 12 weeks of your journey if you would like one?

Best of luck and I look forward to seeing you around ☘

Thanks for the reply, a newbie badge would be good 😊 I will look for a weigh in post tomorrow and make a start!

Great. Badge all done!

Just look for the weigh-in tomorrow in Events, to the right of the home page.

Good luck on your journey. I think you can get used to any routine including calorie counting if you are committed and try hard to resist temptation. You can do it. See you for the Saturday weighin

Good luck for tomorrow Zigg; it took me about 3 weeks of weighing food and checking calories before I got the hang of it. You get used to what a sensible portion of particular foods looks like after a while, and you also quickly memorise the calorie value of foods you eat on a regular basis. This community and the NHS 12 week diet (which has turned into the 10 month plan!) have certainly worked wonders for me and I love that it doesn't cost anything so it is available to all of us x

Welcome and good luck for the weigh in. I no longer count calories. As kalahuchi says it is getting used to a good portion size, which is what I now do. Using smaller plates is also a good thing to try - works for me!
