Gutted and frustrated

This week has not been so successful. I have noticed that since I have upped my gym activity my fat is being replaced with muscle. It's great losing inches, I really love it but I feel so deflated not losing lbs. This week I have put on 2lbs but lost an inch. Anyone have any advice?

Muscle is heavier than fat so if your building muscle you might put on weight but burn fat at the same time, hence the reason you have lost an inch. You seem to be on the right track so just keep at it. Can you see the difference in the mirror?

You have to decide what your focus is. Is it seeing a number on the scales or wearing clothes that are smaller than previously.

Personally I would go for fewer inches every time. Enjoy your successes, all of them and don't be hard on yourself.

When I hit the gym hard this always happens to me too.. don't beat yourself up when the numbers don't show on the scales - muscle weighs heavier than fat.

Your clothes feel great loosing inches - who cares what you weigh :)

Chin up, keep going..!

Thank you for the positive comments. Inches is more important to me so guess il just have to avoid the scales for a bit

Oh I can relate to this! I was so so disheartned when after a couple of months at the gym, I'd put ON 2kg, I was really demotivated for ages. Then I kicked myself up the bum, decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and make some bigger changes to my diet and try to weigh myself less frequently. I know a lot of people like to weigh themselves weekly, but perhaps fortnightly or monthly is better so you see the bigger picture? My understanding is yes, you put on muscle weight to start, but eventually the lbs start to shift!

It can be water retention in terms of the muscles trying to repair themselves post exercise. Do lots of post exercise stretching and rehydrate well. Also bear in mind having more muscle helps you burn more cals in the long run. See it as investing in future weight loss, and enjoy the short term inch loss for now :)
