Its a personal choice but I would say don't take it! The side effects are well documented and hideous. Give the 12 week plan a go, see if it makes a difference before trying the meds.. That would be my advice :) moreless should be able to tell you which daily weigh in has space - everyone is really lovely and supportive :)

Hi Jockey, i do not know anything about the medication but wanted to say well done and you have found a great place here. There is lots of support, motivation and visual hugs when needed. I've found the weekly weigh in groups especially helpful. Good luck on your journey.

Hi and welcome, Joc :)

In response to your question about Orlistat, I'd like you to read this, as it's a very recent thread

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I've lost 7st without resorting to any pills, or potions and have never felt better! :)

Don't think of this as a diet, think of it as a new and healthy lifestyle and remember, if you always do, what you've always done, you'll always get, what you've always had :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Thanks George :)

I could hardly walk at the start of my journey and now I'm running every day! :)

You'll be the same, I'm sure :)

What ever you do I wish you success. I'm a newbie to with a lot of weight to lose. I'm going to do this slowly. I really like the group forum members. So many nice members. A lot of support and information. You're a star! ⭐ Have a great weekend. G56

Joc1959, listen to the wise words of the members on here. I think doctors can be too quick to reach for a magic pill. It's probably because they are so strapped for time. We have got lots of time and lots of members who will support you on a steady weight loss journey, using all sorts of tips for menus, snacks, exercise - without the need to resort to pills (and from what I hear, the side effects of these are pretty gruesome! In fact, I haven't heard any success stories at all for Orlistat.)

So stick with us Joc, download the 12week plan, maybe get MyFitmessPal on your phone for help with calories counting, and we wish you the very best of good luck on your weight loss journey with us as companions along the way.

Hey joc1959 and welcome.

Just to add that my own personal mantra is that this is a lifestyle change for me and not a diet. It's a bit of a mind game thing but I feel it helps.
