Newbie - all set to start...but always fail...

Hi,

I've just sat and read most of this information, printed off what I need and ready to begin properly as from tomorrow.

Totally daunted by it as I am hopeless at eating properly. The stats say I have 7st 3lb to lose - crikey!! I am a 37 year old female, part-time working mum of 2 primary age children so my life is busy. I know my failings - snacking on rubbish!!

I joined the gym over a year ago and I do love it. I lost 2 stone then put a stone back on (from bad eating!) and I now feel like the fat kid in the class who isn't getting any less fat!! I attend at least 2-4 classes a week, a variety of Spinning, Body Combat, Kettlebells etc so in theory I should be getting toned and buff but I keep sabotaging myself and the vicious circle continues.

I have signed up to a 5k run in July so I started the Couch to 5k yesterday - my body was certainly not built for running so it really is a challenge for me but I need to be able to keep up with those in my group on this run so I have got to do it!!

We've also booked our first family holiday abroad in August so the though of being comfortable in my own skin around the pool is what I know I've got to keep in my head whenever I reach for something naughty...

I'm hoping joining this forum will keep me going as it's something I have never tried before and I guess I can be honest here as to how bad or well my days are going.

Having tried the other slimming clubs I often felt that a lot of the group chat became a competition or an act and therefore never wanted to stay and get that support I needed. I also find that when I deny myself food I really do crave it big time and adopt that so what attitude of I'm just going to eat what I want so nur!!

Sorry for harpering on - I'm enjoying reading all the posts and hope to get lots of inspiration from everyone, and more than anything I hope to post a loss here next Friday!! Bugger it's half term next week so that's really going to test me haha!!!

:-)

Welcome Newbie5

I joined yesterday...I am a full time working mum of 2 one in primary one in nursery.

I have a big issue with snacking on rubbish...hence why I lots and gained 6lbs all in January - so figured I join here for some support and motivation.

the main point is we can eat what we want - just factor it in and if you have a bad day there is always the next one. besides as you do so much exercise I'm sure you can grab a treat every so often without it causing major issues

Set small goals to start with and get a non-food reward for yourself when you achieve them...that is my strategy.

Good luck with the journey x

It is so much harder having young children and therefore there is always some type of naughty food stuff in the house!! I do try and buy them items that I don't like!

I've just been reading the tips on alternatives to chocolate forum so going to give some of them a go to try and curb the sweet tooth! Hopefully they'll work on biscuits and cakes too! ;-)

Good luck to you as well - positive thinking all the way! x

Hi and welcome, Newbie5 :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Thank you very much - I am feeling very inspired and motivated right now so long may it continue!

I had a good read of your pinned newbie post - very interesting information, thank you.

I would definitely like to join a weigh-in thread in. Thursdays or Fridays are good for me so I will hunt out the thread!

I'm hoping the forum will keep me going!

Thank you x

Just made a wonderful snack that you might enjoy. Drain a tin of chickpeas. Spray a baking sheet with frylight and skate the tray to coat the chickpeas. Then sprinkle with spices of your choice, Chinese 5 spice or jerk seasoning work well. Give them a shake again and roast in a medium to hottest oven. They are done when you like the texture so can still be soft or cook them for longer to get them crispy. There is quite a lot of eating in a tin of chickpeas, and they are good for you. Probably need to make them in advance for when the munchies strike. You can also make them with broad beans.

Thank you, I'll definitely give this a try. I'm so unadventurous with food that I need to make myself try different things!

I am probably the other way with food, I love trying new things and cooking different things. My family repeatedly joke that if I cook something everyone likes they daren't tell me because I never cook it again! I am sure that's not true, but I do like to ring the changes.

Hi glad you've made the first move, hopefully you will love this forum as much as I do, we don't do bitching or competition only encouragement, helpful tips and good advice.

Welcome x

Hi Newbie5 , you've come to the right place for support, so much better than sliming groups. We are here 7 days a week to support each other with no competition and you can say exactly how you feel, I think the anonymity helps, in fact it is quite liberating. You have obviously got your exercise well and truly sorted out, now just for the eating. Good luck😊

Hiya! I feel the same as you do. Once I lost 10 stone and it has allllll gone back on and more. Now I have the guilt, how could I have let this happen! All that hard work undone! But I'm slowly getting over it and focusing on this new journey. I'm not the same person who lost that weight I am different now with different goals and reasons.

When I took my first steps into my new weight loss journey I was so defeated and I was setting myself up to fail before I had begun however one month down and I am doing really well! At 23stone running is not something I have any desire to do though I would love to! I see people running along and I think that must be great but for now it's not for me so I swim twice a week. I love the swim. It is me time. Time for me to celebrate what my body can do not to be upset about what it can't. I have also found some healthy snacks that I love! I used to force myself to eat fruit and yogurt and stuff I hate because it was healthy but now I have discovered avacado and I have a flat bread with avacado and tomatoes for a break in the morning and I love it! It is delicious! For you it might be something different but if you can find a healthy snack you enjoy go for it :)

I know it must be hard with children but if you can get into an eating routine with meals and breaks at similar times your body will become used to that and after a while you get into the swing of it and the hunger and desire to grab the crisps isn't as strong.

As for your holiday it is great to have a goal but just go for it! Find a costume that you love and work it! It is your holiday that you deserve don't let weight hold you back! I say this because when I lost 10 stone I looked amazing! But I didn't feel it. I was stuck in fat girl mode I never enjoyed my slimmer body because my head never caught up. I think if you can celebrate your body at every stage of your journey then when you make it your brain will be with you! That's my hope for this time around.

Also one last thing! This is a healthy lifestyle to maintain your health and fitness for life. This is why we need to find snacks we like find balance between healthy choices with some unhealthy snacks along the way that don't derail us but give us a little bit of what we fancy. We are strong enough to have a biscuit the odd biscuit not a whole packet!

I'm sorry for going on! I wish you well on your journey! Xxx
