Need to lose weight before graduation

Hi everyone I'm a university student and I'm trying to lose weight before my graduation in July, I have been trying to do it before but I always fall into temptation and end up eating junk. The problem is when I'm stressed around assignments and exam time I eat junk and my weight increases like crazy, but then I stop eating junk my weight goes down a little bit it but I don't feel a lot of difference. So I just need some motivation to start and keep going until I can make a good habit of eating healthy food.

Firstly welcome to the forum. Doubtless one of our fabulous admin team will post you all the links and information you need to get the most from the site

Flavsant, you recognise your problem as being the junk food you eat and obviously it is something you need to control. I appreciate how difficult that can be, although quite ancient now I have only just graduated with a 2:1 honours degree and while studying and preparing assignments it is easy to neglect everything else especially your diet. I would suggest that you firstly take steps to minimise the amount of rubbish you eat by not buying it in the first place. Keep a supply of healthy snacks and nibbles to hand and try to allow time to shop and plan for your stress times.

You say that you lose weight when not studying but can't see the difference. It is said that 10lb is the difference in dress sizes so that is roughly how much you need to lose to see a dress size difference. Do you exercise regularly? That will help, not necessarily with weight loss initially but by toning up both your body and your mind

Good luck and keep posting x

welcome to the weight loss forum flavsant

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The majority of our daily weigh-in's are now full, but we still have spaces in Thursday and Saturday, which you'd be very welcome to join. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

As a student, you are probably watching the pennies as well as the lbs. Fruit to nibble can work out expensive as it tends to go off quickly. Try Persimmons, you can slice them really thinly to make the snack last and they are really quite filling. They stay fresh for ages too.

Omdz you're literally me 😂 I'm graduating this year too and although I've been eating good recently (had no exams in Jan) I know as soon as semester 2 starts it's gonna be difficult to resist eating some feelings 😂 What I'm going trying to do is use my health as my main motivator (my BMI is 28 and I don't want to predispose myself to high blood pressure , diabetes etc . if I can help it ) . When I've tried to lose weight in the past I've always done it for superficial reasons of wanting to look good but realising the health implications helps you to eat better ! I know there's a lot of pressure to look good for graduation but don't overwhelm yourself and take it one step at a time as there is not quick fix . I would recommend checking out Joe Wicks on instagram (he's got really quick and easy recipe videos that are tasty but healthy ). Work out your daily calorie allowance on the NHS Choices website and try to stick to it - download MyFitnessPal , you can scan the barcodes of your product so and it works out the calories for you ! Lemme know if you need anything :)

Maybe frame the Aim little differently..

Flavsant - " I want to be fit and eat healthy for Life. I want to look good during my graduation and for every year beyond that.

" I want to change my food habits and live better and healthier.

I am not looking for short term quick solutions but I want to change for good and for ever.

I want freedom from having to worry about weight and food."

Please try this approach... because short term approach usually fails.

Try to fill yourself with Water - Salads - Fruits before every meal, before every outing.

Remove all junk food from your home.

Delink yourself from friends who tend to binge.

Focus on Health and Fitness... not on weight loss.

When you aim to be fit and trim... the weight loss will happen automatically.

All the best :)
