Slim fast

Hi everyone!

I recently started dieting in preparation for a holiday in June and after Christmas I decided a needed a fresh start!

Has anyone any experience with the slim fast meal bars? I'm tempted by them as they seem much more simple than calorie counting!

Hi, welcome. I think things that are fine for a short term thing like a few weeks but eating them doesn't teach you how to eat healthily. I don't like calorie counting either so I just eat veg with meat or fish and I am losing weight well. I don't eat bread, pasta, potatoes at all or dairy apart from abit of natural yogurt. I make everything from scratch as processed food is full of hidden salt, sugar. For long term weight loss I wouldn't do slim fast. Everyone I know put all the weight back on as soon as they finished. Good luck

It depends what your ultimate goal is. Lots of things will work for a quick fix weight loss but when you return to 'normal' eating the weight will just go back on. The 12 week diet is based on calorie counting and in doing so realising that you can consume a lot more healthy foods for the same calories, in other words changing the way you eat to hopefully become the norm and therefore a sustainable way of being slimmer and healthier, long term.

I have tried them years ago, but couldn't sustain it. Had to go back to real food and ended up putting more back on than I lost. Not for me but probably work for some? Good old fashioned calorie counting does work, doesn't take long and if you write down what you have in a diary it's easy to keep track.

I'm told calorie counting gets easier after a short time as most people eat the same meals repeatedly.

Especially if you use my fitness pal as it 'remembers' what you eat and you can build up a record of all your favourite recipes/meals too.

having a bottle or a bar for emergency is ok if you've nothing else to eat but long term it's not going to change your eating habits and as soon as you go back to normal food you will probably put it back on again... The bar on its own is 210 calories... so u could have something a lot more tastier than a shake or bar for that amount of calories !

Heck, You can have a 4 finger KitKat for 213 calories. I had one after my tea as a treat. :D

I think they're OK for a short time, or every now and again, but I think you'd quickly get bored of them. I also don't think they taste that nice.
