Alternative snacks to fruit, nuts and raw veg...

Hello,

New person here trying to shed 12kg. One of my main problems is that I really hate the texture of a lot of fruit, so it puts me off snacking on it. I force bananas and apples down but it just makes me miserable.

I'm also not a huge fan of nuts, I find the taste bland.

I do however love love love most vegetables.

Does anyone have any ideas on low calorie things I can snack on during the day that isn't fruit, nuts, or sticks of raw vegetables (I just want to smother them in dip).

I was thinking about baking some thin slices of sweet potato (no oil) and dusting them with paprika to bring into work?

Thanks,

Ghem

hi Ghem, why do you feel you have to have a snack 2 or 3 or 4 times a day, is it because you are hungry? Or because you have been told to? Or are you just bored and want to stick something in your mouth? it is not necessary to snack which often just leads us to eating more than we planned, but if you have to nibble on something and you feel it ought to be fruit why not try making yourself some fruit leathers? or vegetable leathers even, all the goodness with a totally different texture :)

Hi, I read that you can roast chickpeas in the oven and they come up really crunchy (in spice) perhaps paprika, I read it on this forum and then at sainsburys they have a recipe. all the best. Jp.

Good you like veggies, better option than fruits anyway. Yes sweet potato one is a good idea. I microwave them for snack, about 5 minutes for a small one. Try kale chips, taste a bit like crispy sea weed, not everyone's cup of tea, but personally I think it's all right. I like cooked prawns, expensive one I know. Also boiled eggs ( for extra flavour, you can crack them, but not open them, put seasoning you like in the water boiled eggs and leave eggs there over night).

try roasting some tinned chick peas and sprinkle over some seasoning - it's quite a good snack.

Cutting out snacks has made me enjoy my three main meals so much more now. I only snack evenings now on fruit.

You could do raw or cooked carrots chopped into slices of chips style. You could also do this with cooked parsnips, also cut in chip style.

I find I need something in the afternoon because waiting 6 - 7 hours between lunchtime and dinner is just too long. I get really hungry and find myself buying something (bad) if I haven't prepared a snack for myself. Thank you so much for all your tips, they actually all sound like things I would really like. So I'm off to research some recipes and ingredients now.
